Police officer pleads guilty to making child pornography

A Toronto police officer from Malton is facing jail time after pleading guilty to a number of offences related to child pornography and sexual assault, The Mississauga News has learned.

Dariusz Kisielewski, 44, will be back in Brampton court Nov. 25 for sentencing.

Court records show Kisielewski was facing 36 charges, including multiple counts of sexual assault, sexual exploitation and sexual interference, in addition to failing to comply with bail conditions.

Kisielewski pleaded guilty in front of Justice Bruce Durno to accessing child pornography, four counts of making child pornography and three counts of sexual interference, according to Attorney General spokesperson Brendan Crawley. The sexual interference pleas mean that Kisielewski admitted to, on three occasions, touching a part of the body of a person under the age of 16 “for a sexual purpose,” according to the Criminal Code.

Kisielewski faces up to 10 years in jail.

Const. Lilly FitzPatrick told The News Kisielewski did enter a guilty plea recently and the lawyers are in the midst of presenting evidence to the judge as part of the sentencing hearing.

Toronto Police Const. Victor Kwong said Kisielewski resigned from the force back in March as an officer in 22 Division. Prior to that, he had been suspended.

The married father of two was arrested at his home on Sept. 5, 2013 by the Peel Regional Police Internet Child Exploitation Unit, following a two-month investigation.

Police say a man was using his computer in his home to possess child pornography. Kisielewski was initially charged with making child pornography, possessing child pornography and three counts of voyeurism.

Peel police won’t discuss specifics of the charges, but court records show the officer is accused of “surreptitiously observing and visually recording” the victims, who are “in circumstances that give rise to a reasonable expectation of privacy.”

According to a well-placed source, a hidden camera was used to record the victims, who are girls.

Earlier this year, police laid several more charges against Kisielewski as officers continued to conduct interviews and examine his computer. There was further information sworn into court records on Dec. 3, 2013 and again on Jan. 29 of this year.

Police aren’t saying whether the girls who were allegedly sexually assaulted are the same girls who were recorded with the hidden camera.

Kisielewski was a uniformed constable. None of the allegations are related to his work or committed on work time, police said.

Kisielewski was described by neighbours as a friendly man and father of two boys. Neighbours said they occasionally saw a Toronto police motorcycle in the driveway of his two-storey brick home.

Carol Heath, who has known the family for more than 15 years, said last year at the time of Kisielewski’s arrest, that he lived with his wife, two sons and their grandmother in the home. The grandmother occupied a separate apartment within the home, Heath said.

“They’re a wonderful family, they really are. It’s hard on the kids. It’s hard on the whole family,” said Heath.

Kisielewski spent a lot of time with his blind son, who is in his late teens, said the neighbour. She said the family invited her over for Christmas dinner.

“Even though we’ve been neighbours for years and years and years, a lot of people wouldn’t take that extra step, go that extra mile, to present friendliness and kindness to someone who is not family,” she said.

Kisielewski has appeared on Ontario’s “sunshine list,” the annual list of public sector employees making $100,000 or more, for four of the last five years. In 2011, the most recent year documented, he earned $108,282.20.

In 2009, the Polish police service commended Const. Dariusz Kisielewski in a letter thanking Toronto police for hosting police officers from the Silesia Regional Group of the Polish section of the International Police Association.

Kisielewski was born in Poland and has worked for the Toronto police since 1988.
