Shock and terror: Islamic State boasts mass executions in Iraq (GRAPHIC)
The Islamic State, formerly known as ISIS/ISIL, stormed through areas of northern Iraq last month, building on territory they had already seized in western Iraq and Syria.
As part of their psychological war to create a medieval-style caliphate, the Islamic State has released a new shocking video showing scenes of mass executions, warning Iraqi soldiers and others who dare to resist that they will be rounded up and killed.
The 36-minute video clip was released for the Eid holiday marking the end of Ramadan, sheds a disturbing light on the mentality of the Islamic State extremists and the methods they use as the organization presses on with its campaign of hatred and murder.
The video begins with IS fighters sweeping through a town in quick hit raids. The insurgents then stand over dozens of terrified Iraqis many of whom are only teenagers. One militant mocks a soldier for wearing civilian clothes over his uniform and then shoots him dead.
Other soldiers are then led to a pit in the desert and murdered one by one. A jihadist, not satisfied that they are dead, then does the round again. Most of the men appear to be deserters from the Iraqi army.
Other sequences from the IS propaganda video include a commander firing up militants with promises that paradise awaits them, when they take the city of Samarra, which is only 100 km north of the capital Baghdad.
Some of the prisoners were led to the edge of a river where each one was shot in the head with a pistol and then shoved in.
The footage also shows the insurgents moving into a town in pick-up trucks and US Humvees, seized from the Iraqi army last month, although it is not clear if this actually is Samarra, which is still reportedly in Iraqi government hands.
Islamic State militants gain ground by driving past other vehicles and opening fire randomly on passengers who then lose control of their vehicles or lie dead on the seats in pools of their own blood.
The video also shows IS bulldozing mosques and blowing up Shiite shrines.
Islamic State insurgents appear to avoid heavy clashes and therefore casualties by conducting quick, ruthless and indiscriminate operations and by using psychological warfare.
On Tuesday the Islamic State secured another strategic victory by blowing up a bridge between Tikrit and Samarra, as well as severing a tunnel which was also used by the Iraqi military.
Iraqi government troops have tried and failed to recapture Tikrit from the militants. As the Iraqi army proves to be increasingly inept and ineffective, Shiite militias now rival government forces in their will and ability to confront Sunni insurgents.
Iraqi Christians have also fled the IS controlled city of Mosul, the second biggest in Iraq, followingthreats of execution if they did not convert to Islam or pay a religious tax.
The only forces making headway or at least holding their ground in the battle against the IS insurgents are the Kurds to the north and the forces of Bashar al-Assad in Syria. Islamic State militants in Syria briefly captured the Al-Shaar gas field near Homs and killed at least 200 Syrian army soldiers before it was recaptured by President Assad’s forces Monday.

BANNU: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Wednesday said his government would build 2,000 homes for those displaced in the North Waziristan operation.
He said terrorists were trying to cause irreparable damage to Pakistan, adding that there was still time to take measures to improve conditions in the country.
The chief minister made these remarks while addressing those displaced as a result of the military operation under way in North Waziristan at the camp of the internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Baka Khel.
Accompanied by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Mehtab Abbasi, Shahbaz had arrived at the camp which is located in a vast open field a good half-hour drive from Bannu city to meet withthe IDPs and distributed gifts among them.
Addressing the IDPs at the camp, Shahbaz said Operation Zarb-i-Azb was necessary to fight against those who wanted to enforce their own ideologies on the people of Pakistan.
Shahbaz moreover announced that a hospital, a university and Danish schools would be constructed in North Waziristan. He also promised that along with these ventures, he would ensure the construction of 2,000 houses in the tribal region.The IDPs had started pouring in at the camp soon after the military launched an offensive against the Pakistani Taliban in the North Waziristan tribal region in mid-June.
The assault, which was rumoured for months, followed a brazen insurgent attack on Karachi airport that left dozens dead and a peace process with the Pakistani Taliban in tatters.
North Waziristan had become a major base for the TTP which rose up against the state in 2007, while the United States had long called for action in the area against militant groups targeting Nato forces in Afghanistan.
More than 500 militants and 27 soldiers have been killed in the assault so far, according to the military, though their death toll for insurgents cannot be independently confirmed. (Dawn)

Paris (AFP) - US planemaker Boeing said about 533,000 new commercial pilots would be needed worldwide in the next two decades to cater to a growing global fleet.
It said 584,000 new maintenance technicians would also be required between 2014 and 2033.
"Pilot demand in the Asia Pacific region now comprises 41 percent of the world's need, and the Middle East region saw significant growth ...due to increased airline capacity and orders for wide-body models," a statement said.
"Overall, the global demand is driven by steadily increasing airplane deliveries, particularly wide-body airplanes, and represents a global requirement for about 27,000 new pilots and 29,000 new technicians annually," it added.
Boeing said the Asia Pacific region would need to recruit 216,000 pilots and 224,000 technicians in the next 20 years.
Europe will need 94,000 pilots and 102,000 technicians; North America 88,000 pilots and 109,000 technicians; and the Middle East will need 55,000 pilots and 62,000 technicians.
"The challenge of meeting the global demand for airline professionals cannot be solved by one company or in one region of the world," said Sherry Carbary, vice president, Boeing Flight Services.
"This is a global issue that can only be solved by all of the parties involved -— airlines, aircraft and training equipment manufacturers, training delivery organizations, regulatory agencies and educational institutions around the world."

SOUTHAMPTON, England — England all-rounder Moeen Ali was banned from displaying political messages on the field by the International Cricket Council, after wearing wristbands supporting Palestinians during the third Test.
Ali wore wristbands with "Save Gaza" and "Free Palestine" while batting against India on Monday at the Rose Bowl.
Match referee David Boon told Ali, a Muslim, to not wear the wristbands anymore, an ICC release said on Tuesday. Ali was not cited.undefined
"Whilst he is free to express his views on such causes away from the cricket field, he is not permitted to wear the wristbands on the field of play, and warned not to wear the bands again during an international match," the statement said.
ICC clothing rules do not allow displays of messages relating to political, religious or racial activities during internationals.
The England and Wales Cricket Board didn't believe Ali was committing an offence for his act of solidarity with Gaza's Palestinians, who are in an ongoing war with Israel.
Meanwhile, England players on Tuesday commemorated cricketers who gave their lives in World War I by wearing on their shirts the logo of Help for Heroes, a charity helping military personnel wounded in conflict. They also stood for a minute's silence before the start of play on day three. AP

Some 200,000 displaced Gazans have sought refuge in UN schools following calls by Israel to evacuate their homes ahead of military operations only to find themselves under attack anyway.
For many Palestinians, the feeling of helplessness living in a densely populated enclave under a seven-year blockade with nowhere to run or hide has left them on the brink of despair.
'Where will we go? cried 56-year-old Aishe Abu Darabeh outside the school in the Jebaliya refugee camp which had a few hours earlier served as her refugee shelter. 'Where will we go next? We fled and they (the Israelis) are following us.'
Today's strike at the school in the Jebaliya refugee camp is the second time in days that a UN school had been hit, with the latest violence pushing the Gaza death toll over 1,260.
The attack has forced the UN into another desperate call for the international community to step in.
Abu Hasna, the UN agency spokesman, said: 'It's the responsibility of the world to tell us what we shall do with more than 200,000 people who are inside our schools, thinking that the UN flag will protect them.
'This incident today proves that no place is safe in Gaza.'

3 Pakistanis Die as Facebook Photo Sets Off Blasphemy Rampage
LAHORE, Pakistan (NY Times Report) — A woman and two of her young granddaughters were burned to death Sunday night in the eastern city of Gujranwala after a member of their Ahmadi minority sect was accused of posting a blasphemous picture to Facebook, the police said.
The mob of roughly 1,000 people began rampaging through an Ahmadi neighborhood after being alerted to the photo, setting houses on fire and injuring at least eight other people, according to the police.
Ahmadis belong to a reform sect rooted in Islam, but under Pakistani law they are forbidden to identify themselves as Muslim. They come under frequent attack, and have often been targeted under Pakistan’s harsh blasphemy laws.
The blasphemy accusation was brought against Aqib Saleem, an 18-year-old Ahmadi man who was alleged to have uploaded a picture of the Kaaba, the sacred shrine in Mecca toward which Muslims turn when they pray, with a seminude white woman sitting on top.
Officials said that a Muslim friend of Mr. Saleem’s, Saddam Hussein, 18, noticed the Facebook post and alerted others in the neighborhood. Soon, a crowd of about 400, including some Muslim clerics, reached a nearby police station and urged the police to register a blasphemy case. Meanwhile, the larger mob began rampaging around Ahmadi houses in the Arfat neighborhood of Gujranwala, an industrial city in Punjab Province.
Ahmadi community leaders accuse the police of looking the other way while the violent mob ransacked property, obstructed a fire brigade truck and threw stones at ambulances on their way to the scene. At least eight houses were set on fire.
As the flames spread, Bushra Bibi, 55, and two of her granddaughters, one just 7, were trapped in their house and died of smoke inhalation, officials said. Another Ahmadi woman, who was seven months’ pregnant, had a miscarriage.
A police official said cases were registered against 400 attackers. “They looted everything and did not even leave windows behind,” a police official said.
“They are killing innocent people over fabricated issues,” said Salimuddin, a local Ahmadi spokesman. He claimed that the accused teenager’s Facebook password had been stolen, and that someone offensively edited the picture of the holy Muslim site.
Attacks against religious minorities have become a norm in Pakistan, where Islamic extremist groups have been operating more openly than ever and have been able to harass and kill minorities with near-total impunity.
Four years ago, at least 86 Ahmadis were killed in coordinated attacks in Lahore when armed gunmen belonging to banned Islamist groups assaulted Ahmadi places of worship.
Rights activists and Ahmadi community members strongly condemned the latest attacks.
“The people who were killed were not even indirectly accused of blasphemy charges. Their only fault was that they were Ahmadis,” said Zohra Yusuf, chairwoman of the independent Human Rights Commission of Pakistan. “Torching women and children in their house simply because of their faith represents brutalization and barbarianism stooping to new levels.”
