سال 2017ء، کراچی میں حادثات کے دوران 962 افراد ہلاک، سینکڑوں زخمی ہوئے، رپورٹ

 کراچی میں رواں سال ٹریفک حادثات میں 962 سے زائد افراد ہلاک اور سینکڑوں افراد زخمی ہوئے جبکہ شہر میں دیگر واقعات میں 692 افراد لقمہ اجل بنے۔ ماہ جنوری میں ٹریفک حادثات میں نیوی افسر، پولیس اہلکار، خواتین اور بچوں سمیت 58 افراد ہلاک ہوئے تھے، کرنٹ لگنے سے 11 افراد، ڈوب کر 4 افراد، گر کر 5 افراد، ٹرین حادثات میں 7 افراد، دب کر 4 افراد ہلاک ہوگئے تھے، لیاری کے علاقے کچرے میں لگنے والی آگ سے دم گھٹنے سے 2 کم عمر بھائی اور ایک کمسن بہن جاں بحق ہوئی تھی۔ ماہ فروری میں شہر کے مختلف ٹریفک حادثات میں نیوی اہلکار، 4 طلبہ، خواتین اور کم عمر بچوں سمیت 84 افراد جاں بحق ہوئے۔ شہر کے مختلف مقامات سے 13 لاشیں ملیں، ٹرین کی زد میں آکر 3 افراد ہلاک ہوئے، دم گھٹنے، گرنے اور ملبے تلے دب کر 15 افراد ہلاک ہوئے، کرنٹ لگنے سے 2 افراد، جھلس کر ایک شخص، زیر زمین دھماکے سے ایک شہری ہلاک ہوا، ڈوبنے سے 4 سالہ بچی سمیت 3 افراد ہلاک ہوئے۔

ماہ مارچ میں ٹریفک حادثات میں نیوی کے افسر، خواتین اور بچوں سمیت 82 افراد جاں بحق ہوئے تھے جبکہ متعدد افراد زخمی بھی ہوئے۔ ٹرین کی زد میں آکر 6 افراد لقمہ اجل بنے تھے، چھت سے گر کر، دیوار گرنے اور دیگر واقعات میں 13 افراد ہلاک ہوگئے تھے، کرنٹ لگنے سے 11 افراد ہلاک ہوئے، کم عمر بچی اور خاتون سمیت 2 افراد جھلس کر ہلاک ہوگئے، 2 افراد ڈوب کر ہلاک ہوئے، شہر کے مختلف علاقوں سے 10 افراد کی لاشیں ملی، 15 مارچ کو آرام باغ کے علاقے میں کچی شراب پینے سے 4 دوست ہلاک ہوئے تھے۔ ماہ اپریل میں شہر کے مختلف علاقوں میں ٹریفک حادثات خواتین اور بچوں سمیت 85 افراد ہلاک ہوئے، ٹرین کی زد میں آکر 6 افراد ہلاک، ایک شخص جھلس کر ایک شہری اور زہر کھا کر ایک شخص ہلاک ہوا، ڈوب کر 12 افراد جان سے ہاتھ دھو بیٹھے، دم گھٹنے سے 3 افراد ہلاک ہوئے، شہر کے مختلف مقامات سے 15 افراد کی لاشیں ملیں۔ اونچی عمارت، بس کی چھت سے گر کر اور مٹی کا تودہ گرنے سے 9 افراد لقمہ اجل بنے جبکہ کرنٹ لگنے سے 10 افراد ہلاک ہوگئے۔

ماہ مئی میں شہر کے مختلف علاقوں میں ٹریفک حادثات خواتین اور بچوں سمیت 96 افراد ہلاک ہوئے، ٹرین کی زد میں آکر 3 افراد ہلاک، ایک شخص جھلس کر ہلاک ہوا، ڈوب کر 28 افراد جان سے ہاتھ دھو بیٹھے، دم گھٹنے سے میاں، بیوی اور بچے سمیت 3 افراد جاں بحق ہوئے۔ شہر کے مختلف مقامات سے 27 افراد کی لاشیں ملیں، اونچی عمارت، بس کی چھت سے گر کر 15 افراد لقمہ اجل بنے، جبکہ کرنٹ لگنے سے 17 افراد جاں بحق ہوئے جبکہ ہیٹ اسٹروک سے 2 افراد جان سے ہاتھ دھو بیٹھے۔ ماہ جون میں شہر کے مختلف علاقوں میں ٹریفک حادثات خواتین، بچوں اور پولیس اہلکار سمیت 81 افراد ہلاک ہوئے، 3 افراد جھلس کر ہلاک ہوئے، ڈوب کر 19 افراد جان سے ہاتھ دھو بیٹھے، شہر کے مختلف مقامات سے 13 افراد کی لاشیں ملیں، اونچی عمارت، بس کی چھت سے گر کر 14 افراد لقمہ اجل بنے جبکہ کرنٹ لگنے سے 34 افراد جاں بحق ہوئے جبکہ پتنگ کی ڈور پھیر جانے سے ایک شہری جاں بحق ہوگیا تھا۔

ماہ جولائی میں شہر میں ٹریفک حادثات میں پولیس افسر و اہلکار سمیت 82 افراد جاں بحق اور متعدد افراد زخمی ہوئے، کرنٹ لگنے سے 32 افراد ہلاک، ڈوب کر 17 افراد لقمہ اجل بنے، چھت سے گر کر، دیوار گرنے و دیگر واقعات میں باپ، بیٹے سمیت 12 افراد جاں بحق ہوئے، ٹرین کی زد میں آکر 5 افراد زندگی کی بازی ہار گئے، زہریلی چیز کھانے سے ایک شہری جان سے ہاتھ دھو بیٹھا، جبکہ شہر کے مختلف مقامات سے ایک خاتون سمیت 10 افراد کی لاشیں ملیں۔ ماہ اگست میں شہر کے مختلف علاقوں میں ٹریفک حادثات میں پولیس اہلکار اور رینجرز اہلکار سمیت 112 افراد جاں بحق ہوئے، مختلف مقامات سے 14 لاشیں ملیں، ٹرین کی زد میں آکر اے ایس آئی سمیت 8 افراد ہلاک ہوئے، جھلس کر ماں بیٹی سمیت 9 افراد ہلاک ہوئے، ملبے تلے دبنے اور گرنے کے واقعات میں رینجرز اہلکار سمیت 22 افراد جاں بحق ہوئے، ڈوب کر 22 افراد لقمہ اجل بنے، دم گھٹنے سے 3 افراد جبکہ کرنٹ لگنے سے 41 افراد جاں بحق ہوئے۔

ماہ ستمبر میں ٹریفک حادثات میں 62 افراد اور دیگر واقعات میں 51 افراد جان سے ہاتھ دھو بیٹھے تھے، اکتوبر شہر میں ٹریفک حادثات میں پولیس اہلکار سمیت 89 افراد ہلاک ہوئے، 13 افراد کی لاشیں ملیں، کرنٹ سے 14 افراد ہلاک ہوئے، ٹرین کی زد میں آکر 4 افراد لقمہ اجل بنے، ڈوب کر بچوں سمیت 7 افراد جاں بحق ہوئے جبکہ دیگر حادثات میں 13 افراد ہلاک ہوئے۔ ماہ نومبر میں ٹریفک حادثات میں 77 افراد لقمہ اجل بنے جبکہ ٹرین کی زد میں 3 افراد ہلاک ہوئے، شہر کے مختلف مقامات سے 14 لاشیں ملیں، کرنٹ لگنے سے 9 افراد، ڈوب کر 5 افراد، جھلس کر 2 افراد و دیگر حادثات و واقعات میں 15 افراد جاں بحق ہوئے۔ یکم دسمبر سے 19 دسمبر تک کے دوران ٹریفک حادثات میں 54 افراد ہلاک و دیگر واقعات میں 32 افراد جاں بحق ہوئے۔

رواں سال خودکشی کے واقعات میں 160 افراد ہلاک
شہر میں رواں سال خودکشی کے واقعات میں 160 افراد ہلاک ہوئے۔ تفصیلات کے مطابق ماہ جنوری میں خودکشی کے واقعات میں 5 خواتین، ایک تاجر، ایک سیکیورٹی گارڈ سمیت 12 افراد لقمہ اجل بنے تھے۔ فروری میں ایف سی اہلکار، خواتین اور ایک لڑکی سمیت 16 افراد نے خودکشیاں کی۔ ماہ مارچ 3 خواتین سمیت 18 افراد نے خودکشی کی تھی جبکہ پرسرار طور پر 2 افراد نے زہر کھا کر زندگی کا خاتمہ کرلیا تھا۔ ماہ اپریل میں خودکشی کے واقعات میں 5 خواتین سمیت 13 افراد ہلاک ہوئے۔ ماہ مئی میں خودکشی کے واقعات میں 8 خواتین اور ڈاکٹر سمیت 20 افراد نے زندگی کا خاتمہ کرلیا تھا۔ ماہ جون میں خودکشی کے واقعات میں 7 خواتین سمیت 14 افراد ہلاک ہوئے۔ ماہ جولائی 4 خواتین سمیت 13 افراد نے خودکشیاں کی۔ ماہ اگست میں خودکشیوں کے واقعات میں 14 افراد جان سے ہاتھ دھو بیٹھے۔ ماہ اکتوبر میں بھی خواتین سمیت 12 نے پھندا لگا کر خودکشیاں کی۔ ماہ نومبر میں 12 افراد نے خودکشی کی تھی جبکہ یکم دسمبر سے 19 دسمبر تک کے دوران شہر میں خودکشی کے واقعات میں 6 افراد نے اپنی زندگی کا خاتمہ کرلیا۔

Father 'found 13-year-old son and 44-year-old teacher having sex in car'

A father has said he found his teenage son having sex in the back of a car with a teacher from his Texas school.

Police in Bay City, 80 miles south-west of Houston, have charged the teacher, Rachel Gonzales, 44, with online solicitation and having an improper relationship with the 13-year-old boy.

During the investigation, police inspected the boy’s mobile phone and found texts from Ms Gonazalez indicating the pair had an inappropriate relationship prior to the alleged incident on 14 December, police said.

At the request of the District Attorney, the Bay City Independent School District, where Ms Gonzalez is a teacher, have turned over the case to the local police.

She was taken to the Matagorda County jail on 22 December but is now out on bond.

Ms Gonzalez officially resigned from her post as a fourth-grade teacher at Cherry Elementary School on 15 December, according to the school district. It is not known whether she has yet had the opportunity to enter a plea.


A local newspaper, the Bay City Tribune, said a September report from the Texas Education Agency found the number of cases against educators accused of inappropriate relationships with minor students increased 36 per cent this past year.

A whopping 302 investigations were opened into such matters this year alone.

The state has experienced an increase in the reporting of such incidents for the ninth consecutive year.

As of September 2017, there is a law in the state requiring school principals or district superintendents report such relationships in a timely manner or face charges of a second-degree felony.

Pakistan’s largest refinery makes great strides in financial performance, despite macroeconomic challenges
Corporate results: Byco profit jumped by 50% to Rs 2.1 billion in FY17

Karachi: Byco Petroleum Pakistan Limited (BPPL) declared profit after tax of Rs.2.1 billion for the year ended June 2017, a 50% increase over the same period last year. Byco’s operating profit also registered growth of 14% in FY17 over FY16. Byco has shown stable earnings growth over the last several years. For the last 3 consecutive years the company posted operating profit of Rs. 3 billion or more.

Earlier in the year, BPPL received approval from the High Court to merge with its wholly owned subsidiary and its parent company to integrate various parts of its petroleum supply chain. BPPL’s FY17 earnings per share (EPS) of Rs. 0.26 per share in consolidated accounts compared to its FY16 EPS of Rs. 0.40 per share is a major achievement given that following the merger the number of shares have increased by 542% to 5.3 Billion shares as against 977 Million shares last year. This shows the positive trajectory of the company’s results.

Byco’s significant growth in profitability has been the result of significant efforts in the improvement of the company’s logistics and imports of products at market competitive pricing. After the merger, Byco Petroleum Pakistan Limited has become the largest oil refinery in the country with 155,000 barrels of refining capacity and is the only refinery with a dedicated oil terminal, Byco’s unique Single Point Mooring. Both of these factors have given Byco a major edge over other refineries in the country; Byco has leveraged this strategic advantage by importing refined petroleum products at its SPM Oil Terminal. in 2017 Byco announced receiving a crude vessel of over 100,000 metric tons, the largest ever to berth at any port of Pakistan. Byco has virtually no vessel waiting time and as a result, with larger sized vessels, saves hundreds of millions of rupees on freight and demurrage costs, an advantage which all other refineries and OMCs lack.

The Pakistan Economy Watch (PEW) on Sunday said the country is facing water terrorism from India as part of the plan to destabilise Pakistan. 


The scarcity of water in rivers has pushed people to utilise groundwater which is depleting at a fast pace, it said. 

The politicians should immediately settle the disputes on Kalabagh dam and other mega projects without which future of the country seems bleak, said Dr. Murtaza Mughal, President PEW.           

He said that demand and supply gap for water has reached alarming levels which will make Pakistan if immediate steps were not taken therefore politicians should settle their dispute in the larger national interest, he added. 

Dr. Murtaza Mughal said that the government should declare water as the most important issue of national security as the climate change, decreasing glaciers and forests and well as water aggression has emerged as grave threats.

He said that different areas have been witnessing a reduction in the water table from four to 12 inches per annum while some areas have witnessed the reduction of three to four feet annually which has increased the cost of pumping water through tube wells. 

He said that scarcity of water is to hurt water-intensive crops like rice and sugar cane in the beginning and entire agricultural chain subsequently which will create problems like unemployment, food security and closure of our leading industries.

Pakistan’s population would be 250 million by 2025, demand for water would be at 338 billion cubic meters while availability would be 236 BCM creating many challenges.

The incumbent government is too much focused on court cases, foreign loans, next elections and new powerhouses while it should spare some time to tackle the issue of water scarcity, he demanded.

Former president retired Gen Pervez Musharraf has suggested that an interim government, authorised by the Supreme Court (SC) to carry out constitutional amendments, was the only solution to the challenges being faced by the country.

He expressed these views while talking to DawnNews on Saturday. "The proposed technocrat interim government should be provided with a considerable time to hold the corrupt politicians accountable," Musharraf said, adding that the interim setup should not be bound to "hold elections in three or six months", as according to him it would not serve the purpose of its placement.

Commenting on the recent statement by National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq in which he had voiced fears regarding the future of the incumbent government, Musharraf said the current government "will not complete its tenure". He was in favour of "ousting the PML-N government".

When asked about the PML-N's narrative that apparently the army was plotting to expel the government, he said: "I don't know what the Aabpara [a veiled reference to the military's intelligence arm] is doing, but every Pakistani who is making efforts to oust the government was justified in doing so."

Those politicians who are talking about the greater plan [the perception that the army was planning to oust the government] are corrupt and useless, he said. Musharraf also accused such politicians of nepotism.

"Corrupt politicians have always compelled the army to take over," he said while trying to justify past martial laws in the country.

"I want, from the depths of my heart, the removal of the ruling regime," he said, adding that it would be in the better interest of the state if the incumbent government doesn't complete its tenure. An interim government should be placed to put the country on the right track, Musharraf said.

"In Pakistan, the state and the Constitution often come at odds with each other. We need to save the country and make democratic amendments to ensure that corrupt elements do not come again at the helm of affairs," he said.

The retired general disagreed that politicians can't be ousted until and unless masses reject them. "This narrative will lead to a clash between the judiciary and the executive," he added.

He, however, praised Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan, saying: "Among an available lot of politicians, only Imran Khan has the charisma to attract masses."

Talking about the role of the judiciary, he said no one was talking about a martial law to bring a positive change in the country, however, masses were looking forward to the SC for some relief.

"The SC will have to find a way [to replace the incumbent government with an interim one]," he remarked.

Musharraf suggested that the judiciary should take a start with striking down the legislation that allows a convicted person to head a political party. "They should declare it illegal and unconstitutional," he added.

"The prevailing rules and laws do not allow a change to take place," he said.

Citing some quotations of Abraham Lincoln, he said the father of democracy himself had confessed that he had broken laws and constitution.

Talking about his vision and future plans, Musharraf said: "We should create more provinces, it is essential to smoothly run the business of the state."

The former president said he wanted to form a multi-ethnic party and spread "Pakistanism". To a question, he said all ethnic entities live in Karachi so it will be good to start a multi-ethnic movement from there.

"I have to approach masses. I don't want to head scattered groups of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), neither they want me to chair them," Musharraf said while negating the impression that he would head a party, comprising various groups of MQM.

"There is a vacuum in Karachi. To me, the MQM is a failure and my approach is not to reinforce failures," he said.

I want to make a new entity and ask the former voters of the MQM to come under its ambit to form a government in their province, Musharraf said, adding that he, however, will not lead them as he considers himself a "national level leader" and that he will "not play on a provincial level".

When asked what if the SC declares him disqualified, he said, in that case, he will sit calmly and say "Pakistan ka Allah hi hafiz" [Pakistan, may Allah Almighty save you].
