Jaecoo J5 EV Headed to Australia in 2026, Pakistan Launch Looks Increasingly Likely

After Rapid Pakistan Entry, Jaecoo & Omoda Targets Australia with All-Electric J5 SUV

After successfully entering right-hand-drive markets such as Thailand and Indonesia, Chery’s export-focused brand Jaecoo & Omoda is now setting its sights on Australia. The company is scheduled to launch the all-electric Jaecoo J5 SUV in the Australian market in January 2026. The J5 will be offered in a single, fully equipped all-electric “Track” variant.

Jaecoo & Omoda has established a reputation for rapid market expansion, a trend already evident in Pakistan. The brand entered the local market in August under the Nishat Group with the Jaecoo J6 and Omoda E5, both imported as completely built units (CBUs). While technologically advanced, their fully imported status resulted in higher prices, limiting their mass-market appeal.

Just two months later, the brand made a stronger impact with the launch of the Jaecoo J7 PHEV in October. Beyond its plug-in hybrid powertrain, the key milestone was that the J7 became the brand’s first locally assembled vehicle in Pakistan. Initially priced below Rs. 1 crore, it attracted significant attention, although a Rs. 500,000 price increase in December pushed its current price to Rs. 10.499 million.

The upcoming Australian launch of the Jaecoo J5 is particularly relevant for Pakistan. Reports already indicate that the J5 is under consideration for a local debut, with timing dependent on the brand’s broader strategy. Historically, vehicles introduced in Australia often arrive in Pakistan shortly before or after their Australian launch. The Jaecoo J7, MG U9, Haval H6 Facelift, and most recently the Suzuki Fronx all followed similar launch patterns across both markets.

With the all-electric J5 now confirmed for Australia, its arrival in Pakistan appears increasingly likely. If Nishat adopts the same approach used for the J7—local assembly paired with competitive pricing—the Jaecoo J5 could emerge as a strong new contender in Pakistan’s rapidly evolving EV and SUV segments.
