Special KP Assembly Session at Cricket Stadium Sparks Spending Questions
A special session of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly held at Imran Khan Cricket Stadium has sparked debate on social media over the reported cost of organizing the event. According to available details, around Rs1.5 million was spent on seating arrangements, sound systems, recording facilities, food, and other logistical expenses under an agreement with the assembly secretariat.
The one-day session, described as a “public assembly,” was held in an open venue to allow public participation, with separate seating arranged for treasury and opposition members, officials, media representatives, and guests. A complete sound system, including individual microphones for lawmakers, as well as parking arrangements, was also put in place for attendees.
The session followed an announcement by the chief minister to hold an assembly meeting in an open setting, after which the speaker summoned the session at the stadium under relevant assembly rules. However, the unusual venue and the reported expenditure have triggered public discussion online, with questions raised about the necessity and cost of the arrangements.
