Severe riverbank erosion along the Chitral River has caused extensive damage in Charun village, near Booni in Upper Chitral, sweeping away residential houses, agricultural land, and standing crops. The affected families have been left without shelter and are now forced to live under the open sky after losing their homes.
The erosion has also posed a serious threat to the Chitral–Mastuj–Shandur Road, a key transportation route in the region. The Upper Chitral district administration has taken temporary measures to protect the road, but officials say the danger remains as rising water levels continue to intensify the erosion.
Residents of the affected area have appealed to the provincial and federal governments, as well as elected representatives, to launch immediate emergency relief and river protection works. They have also called for compensation to help families recover from the losses caused by the ongoing erosion.
