The iconic Telenor Pakistan signage has been removed from the company's headquarters in Islamabad, symbolizing the end of one of Pakistan's most recognizable telecom brands after more than two decades. The move follows the legal merger of Telenor Pakistan into Pak Telecom Mobile Limited (PTML) as part of PTCL Group's acquisition of the Norwegian operator, with the Telenor brand now being gradually phased out.
Telenor Pakistan entered the country's telecom market in 2005 and quickly became one of the nation's leading mobile network operators. Over the years, the company invested billions of dollars in network expansion, introduced advanced mobile technologies, expanded 4G coverage to millions of users, and served more than 40 million subscribers. It also played a significant role in promoting digital inclusion through services such as Easypaisa, one of Pakistan's pioneering mobile financial platforms, helping drive financial inclusion across the country.
The removal of the Telenor logo marks a historic milestone in Pakistan's telecommunications industry. As operations transition under PTCL Group's strategy following the merger, the telecom sector enters a new phase of consolidation. While the Telenor name is disappearing from Pakistan's corporate landscape, its legacy of expanding mobile connectivity, fostering competition, and accelerating the country's digital transformation is expected to remain an important chapter in the nation's telecom history.
