Nepal Flood: More Than 35 Houses and Multiple Suspension Bridges Swept Away
A massive flash flood struck the Budhi Gandaki River in Nepal’s Gorkha District on October 11, 2026, after a landslide reportedly blocked the Syar Khola tributary, triggering a sudden surge of muddy water and debris downstream.
The powerful floodwaters swept away more than 35 houses and several suspension bridges in areas including Salleri, Jagat, Bagar and Ghattikhola, according to reports. The Budhi Gandaki hydropower camp was also reportedly affected, while residents in vulnerable riverside settlements were forced to flee to higher ground.
At least five people were reported missing following the disaster, while rescue teams from Nepal’s army and police were deployed to search for those unaccounted for and assist affected residents. Dozens of people were rescued, and authorities issued warnings urging communities along the river and downstream areas to evacuate to safer locations. The full extent of the damage remained under assessment as rescue and monitoring operations continued.
The flooding was reportedly triggered when a landslide blocked the river, causing water to accumulate before surging downstream. The sudden flow damaged houses, bridges, electricity infrastructure and a hydropower project construction camp. Authorities also warned of continued flood risks in downstream districts as river levels fluctuated.
