Speaking to the media in Barcelona, Gilani revealed he purchased the watch 12 to 13 years ago when prices were lower and its value had since appreciated due to the rising price of gold. He explained, "Although wearing gold is forbidden for men, it’s wise to carry gold during travel in case of an emergency where it can be sold." He recounted that the watch was snatched from his wrist, along with his host's watch, while they were with family. He added that he was thankful for their safety, despite the unfortunate incident.
