Clearance Operation Underway After Attack on Border Posts in Northern Chitral
Pakistan Reports Timely Intel to Afghanistan on Militant Movements as TTP Claims Attacks
Security forces have killed 7 terrorists during an encounter in the Arsoon area of Chitral district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the Pakistani military, a fierce exchange of fire took place between security forces and terrorists, resulting in the death of 7 militants and critical injuries to 6 others.
The ISPR stated that a clearance operation is ongoing in the area to search for and eliminate any remaining terrorists. Local residents have reportedly supported the security forces' operation and expressed their commitment to cooperation against terrorism. This incident follows a Wednesday attack where dozens of militants assaulted border posts in Chitral, resulting in the deaths of four Pakistani soldiers. Islamabad has attributed these attacks to the Pakistani Taliban, claiming they were planned in Afghanistan's Kunar and Nuristan provinces.
The Pakistani military also asserted that the Afghan government was promptly informed about the movement of these militants. According to a military statement, Pakistani commandos repelled the attacks after several hours of fighting in the mountainous region, claiming to have killed at least twelve militants. However, these military claims have yet to be independently verified. Meanwhile, the banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed responsibility for the attacks, releasing a statement asserting that two military checkpoints in Chitral were seized, although these claims also remain unverified.
