Sixth annual Hafizah Umm al-Rabi‘ayn competition concludes in Nineveh

BYD Seal 05 car awarded to first-place Qur’an memorizer

In Mosul, Iraq, a remarkable spiritual and cultural event unfolded as the sixth annual Hafizah Umm al-Rabi‘ayn Qur’an memorization competition concluded. Despite an era marked by shifting values and external pressures, the gathering highlighted the enduring bond of Muslim communities with the Qur’an. The event served as a reminder that the roots of faith remain strong, even in a region where religious figures and sacred traditions have often been targeted.

This year’s competition reached a historic milestone, with more than 4,000 girls and women successfully memorizing the Qur’an — the largest number since the contest began. Participants included students, graduates, doctors, engineers, and professionals from diverse fields, symbolizing how Qur’anic learning complements modern education. Their achievement demonstrated that the Qur’an is not only a spiritual anchor but also a foundation for ethical strength, intellectual growth, and societal progress.

The ceremony, organized by the Sunni Endowment Directorate of Nineveh under Dr. Tima Abdulmohsin al-Nujaifi’s leadership, featured cultural programs and prize distributions. The top winner received a BYD Seal 05 car, while others were honored with gold jewelry, electronics, and valuable gifts. International Qur’an judges, including Sheikh Shirzad Abdulrahman, added prestige to the event. Ultimately, the gathering reaffirmed Mosul’s identity as a city of knowledge and resilience, where the light of the Qur’an continues to shine despite past wars and hardships.
