لاہور: وکلاء نے متحدہ قومی موومنٹ (ایم کیو ایم) کے سربراہ الطاف حسین کے میڈیا بلیک آؤٹ سے متعلق کیس لڑنے پر سپریم کورٹ بار ایسوسی ایشن کی سابق صدر اور سرگرم کارکن عاصمہ جہانگیر کے لائسنس کی فوری منسوخی کا مطالبہ کردیا ہے.
ایڈووکیٹ آفتاب ورک کی قیادت میں لاہور ہائی کورٹ کے باہر احتجاج کرتے ہوئے وکلاء نے الزام لگایا کہ متحدہ قومی موومنٹ 2007 میں عدلیہ کی بحالی کے لیے شروع کی جانے والی تحریک کے دوران وکلاء کے قتل میں ملوث ہے.
مظاہرین نے ایم کیو ایم قائد الطاف حسین کا مقدمہ لڑنے پر پاکستان بار کونسل اور دیگر باڈیز سے عاصمہ جہانگیرکی رکنیت منسوخ کرنے کا مطالبہ کیا.
یاد رہے کہ رواں ماہ کے آغاز میں لاہور ہائی کورٹ نے پاکستان الیکٹرانک میڈیا ریگولیٹری اتھارٹی (پیمرا) اور پریس کونسل آف پاکستان کو الیکٹرانک اور پرنٹ میڈیا پر متحدہ قومی مومنٹ (ایم کیو ایم ) الطاف حسین کی تقاریر اور تصاویر کی نشر و اشاعت پر پابندی عائد کرنے کی ہدایات جاری کی تھیں.
الطاف حسین کے خلاف درخواستیں ایڈووکیٹ عبداللہ ملک، ایڈووکیٹ آفتاب، ایڈووکیٹ مقصود اور دیگر کی جانب سے دائر کی گئی تھیں، جس میں موقف اختیار کیا گیا تھا کہ ایم کیو ایم قائد نے اپنی تقاریر میں پاک فوج اورریاستی اداروں کے خلاف انتشار آمیز بیان بازی کی، لہذا ان کے خلاف آئین کے آرٹیکل 6 کے تحت غداری کا مقدمہ درج کیا جائے.
واضح رہے کہ آئین کے آرٹیکل 5 کے تحت مملکت پاکستان سے وفاداری ہر شہری کا بنیادی فرض ہے اور دستور اور قانون کی اطاعت ہر شہری خواہ وہ کہیں بھی ہو اور ہر اس شخص کی جو فی الوقت پاکستان میں ہو، واجب التعمیل ذمہ داری ہے جبکہ آرٹیکل 5 کی خلاف ورزی کرنے پر کسی بھی شخص پر آرٹیکل 6 کے تحت غداری کا مقدمہ چلایا جاسکتا ہے.
لاہور ہائی کورٹ کی جانب سے الطاف حسین کی تقاریر و تصاویر کی نشرو اشاعت پر پابندی کے فیصلے کو ‘جانبدار’ اور ‘امتیازی’ قرار دیتے ہوئے ایم کیو ایم نے اس کے خلاف احتجاج کااعلان کیا تھا.

سرگودھا (بحوالہ ایکسپریس نیوز) تھانہ اربن ایریا کے اے ایس آئی نے دیگر ساتھیوں کے ساتھ مل کر اپنی ہی خاتون اہلکار اجتماعی زیادتی کا نشانہ بناڈالا۔
سرگودھا پولیس کی خاتون رضاکار یاسمین بی بی کے مطابق عید الاضحیٰ سے دو روز قبل وہ پولیس اہلکاروں کے ہمراہ کارروائی کے لئے گوجرانوالہ گئی تھی ۔ واپسی میں تاخیر پر اے ایس آئی فیاض گوندل اسے گھر چھوڑنے کے بہانے تھانہ سیٹلائٹ ٹاؤن کی حدود میں واقع اپنے گھر لے گیا، جہاں پہلے ہی سے اس کے دو دیگر ساتھی موجود تھے۔
یاسمین کا کہنا ہے کہ ظفر گوندل اور اس کے ساتھیوں نے شراب کے نشے میں دھت ہوکر اس سے دست درازی کی، یاسمین کی جانب سے مزاحمت پر ظفر گوندل اور اس کے ساتھیوں نے وحشیانہ تشدد کے بعد اسے اجتماعی زیادتی کا نشانہ بنایا۔ اپنے اوپر ہونے والے ظلم کے خلاف یاسمین پہلے اربن ایریا پولیس سٹیشن گئی جہاں اس کی کسی نے نہ سنی ، جس کے بعد وہ اپنی فریاد لے کر سیٹلائٹ ٹاؤن پولیس اسٹیشن گئی لیکن وہاں بھی اس کی شنوائی نہ ہوئی۔
پولیس کی جانب سے کسی قسم کا کوئی تعاون نہ ملنے پر یاسمین نے عدالت کا دروازہ کھٹکھٹایا، جس کے حکم پر سرکاری اسپتال نے اس کا طبی معائنہ کیا، اسپتال کی رپورٹ میں یاسمین سے زیادتی ثابت ہوگئی لیکن پولیس نے پھر بھی اپنے پیٹی بھائی کے خلاف کارروائی نہ کی۔

ایکسپریس نیوز کے مطابق حافظ آباد کے نواحی گاؤں چھنی ہنجرواں میں عمران عرف چیرمین نامی شخص نے اسنوکر اور کمپیوٹر گیم کی دکان کھول رکھی تھی جہاں کمسن بچوں کا آنا جانا لگا رہتا تھا۔ عمران کم سن بچوں کو ڈرا دھما کر انھیں ہوس کا نشانہ بنانے کے ساتھ ان کی برہنہ تصاویر اور ویڈیو کلپ بھی بناتا رہا۔
پولیس کو جب واقعہ کا علم ہوا تو ملزم عمران عرف چیرمین کو فوری طور پر گرفتار کر لیا گیا۔ دوسری جانب متاثرہ بچوں کے والدین کا کہنا ہے کہ ملزم کئی ماہ تک بچوں کو جنسی زیادتی کا نشانہ بناتا رہا، ملزم نے 40 سے زائد معصوم بچوں کے ساتھ جنسی زیادتی کی اور ان کی ویڈیو بنائی لیکن بعض والدین شرمندگی سے بچنے کے لئے خاموشی اختیار کئے ہوئے ہیں۔
واضح رہے کہ اس سے قبل گزشتہ ماہ قصور میں پاکستان کی تاریخ میں جنسی زیادتی کا سب سے بڑا اسکینڈل منظر عام پر آیا تھا جس میں 280 سے زائد بچوں کو جنسی زیادتی کا نشانہ بنایا گیا اور ان کی تصاویر اور ویڈیوز بنا کر والدین کو بلیک میل کیا گیا۔

CHITRAL: About 8,000 people of Raman village in Laspur valley of upper Chitral will get electricity before the start of winter season as a small hydropower station built by Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (AKRSP) was commissioned to work here on Tuesday.
Temperature in the Laspur valley and other areas of upper Chitral remains below freezing point during winter.
Accompanied by Aga Khan Foundation chief executive officer Akhtar Iqbal, the Swiss ambassador to Pakistan, Marc George, flew to the village to inaugurate the facility which was financed by Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
Speaking on the occasion, the Swiss ambassador expressed his pleasure over completion of the hydropower project with active participation of the local community and said that the project would now improve the standard of life of the people.
“I also belong to a mountainous area like Laspur and know the problems of the people in all sectors of development and feel how electricity is crucial to their uplift and conservation of environment,” he said. He eulogised the role of AKRSP in development of power sector and social organisation process which brought about social cohesion in the area.
He said that about 100 years ago his country was also as backward as Laspur valley and the rest of Chitral, but the people developed a penchant for collective development and worked relentlessly to achieve the goal of development.
Speaking on the occasion, district nazim Maghfirat Shah said that the district government would develop the natural resources of the area to eradicate poverty from Chitral district. He said that the district government would foster communal harmony in the area which was a prerequisite for progress and development.
He said that the hydropower project at Raman Laspur was a symbol of the achievement of community. He pledged to lend full support to NGOs for development in the district.
AKRSP general manager Abdul Malik, deputy commissioner Aminul Haq and community leaders, Hasil Murad and Rashida, on this occasion highlighted the importance of the power project and said that womenfolk would also benefit of it.
The guests were enthralled by the traditional music concert arranged by local people.

Yesterday, Panjab police arrived in large numbers and cordoned off Bapu Surat Singh’s home in Hassanpur. An ambulance remained outside until the early hours of the night, increasing the threat that Bapu Ji may once again be forcibly removed and taken to hospital. Since January 16, 2015, Surat Singh Khalsa, an 83-year-old activist, has been on a fast-unto-death seeking release of Sikh prisoners who have completed their full jail terms and are legitimately due for release. What he got in return is a forced confinement at a hospital in Ludhiana where he is being force-fed and subjected to dubious medical procedures – a conduct that is being called inhuman by many.
What is Surat Singh’s demand?
Singh has claimed that there are at least 43 Sikh prisoners across several prisons in the country who have completed their full jail terms, but are still being held in their old age. He demands their release. As reported by scroll “The least the state government can do is work to bring them back to Punjab, making it easier for their families to visit them,” Singh said. “Arrogant rulers may not listen, but people do.”
Why are Singh’s demands being ignored?
Sumedh Singh Saini, the Director General of Police, Punjab, said in a press conference that a list discussed by Surat Singh contained 82 names, some of whom have been arrested as recently as 2014, and that several were undertrials. The Supreme Court had stayed the release of life convicts across the country with an order in July 2014, and in some cases, the prisoners were jailed in other states.
Are Singh’s demands valid?
Jaspal Singh Manjhpur, the lawyer aiding Surat Singh, said that the list discussed by the DGP contained 200 names, of which an estimated 70 to 75 prisoners have indeed served over 15 to 20 years of their jail term. Arjun Sheoran, a lawyer associated with People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL), said that the Punjab government’s claim that the state was unable to act because of a Supreme Court stay on release of life prisoners in 2014 was inaccurate and that an interim application could be filed.
Inhuman treatment of Surat Singh
After the first three weeks of his fast getting totally ignored by the govt., over a hundred policemen forcefully shifted Surat Singh from his house to a civil hospital on February 8, where he was placed under preventive arrest. Allegedly, in order to force-feed him, food pipes have been stitched on the activist’s forehead in an unhygienic and unscientific manner, which resulted in an infection.
The country’s largest civil rights organizations, PUCL said that if the allegations are true, they amount to inflicting torture and inhuman, cruel, degrading and illegal treatment, and that the state is denying Surat Singh his right to indulge in a non-violent, democratic act of protesting.
Besides, Surat Singh’s son, Ravinderjit Singh, a U.S. citizen, who visited India to look after his father, was held under Indian police custody for two months under charges of being “likely to commit a breach of the peace”. After his release on April 27, Ravinder says he was tortured multiple times and that his life was in danger. He has alleged that the police blackmailed him to manipulate Surat into stopping his protest.

At least 75 civilians mostly women and children have been killed after a Saudi airstrike on a wedding party in Yemen's southwestern province of Ta’izz as more civilians fall victim to the kingdom's military aggression against its impoverished southern neighbor.
Yemen's al-Masirah news channel reported on Monday that the attack hit a wedding ceremony in the port city of Mocha.
Saudi fighter jets targeted a market in Razih district in the northwestern Yemeni province of Sa’ada, al-Masirah reported. There were no immediate reports of possible casualties in the attack.
Saudi warplanes also targeted areas in east and south of the capital, Sana’a.
Saudi jets also reportedly targeted Yemen's central province of Ma'rib over 25 times.
On Sunday, more than 40 Yemenis, mostly women and children, were killed as Saudi jets pounded areas in Hajjah and Ta’izz provinces.
Meanwhile, Yemen's popular committees, backed by Ansarullah fighters, on Monday launched fresh attacks on Saudi positions in retaliation against the Riyadh regime’s airstrikes.
The allied Yemeni forces fired a barrage of rockets at a military base in Saudi Arabia’s Jizan region. Three Saudi armored vehicles were also destroyed in another attack in the same region.
A report by al-Ahd news website also said that the Yemenis had killed and injured tens of pro-Saudi militants in Ma'rib and destroyed ten vehicles belonging to them.
Saudi Arabia started its military aggression against Yemen on March 26 – without a UN mandate – in a bid to undermine the Houthi Ansarullah movement and restore power to the fugitive former Yemeni president, Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, a staunch ally of Riyadh.
According to a report released on September 19 by the Yemen’s Civil Coalition, over 6,000 Yemenis have so far lost their lives in the airstrikes, and a total of nearly 14,000 people have been injured.

(Monitoring Desk) A baby born with half his head missing has defied the odds and doctors predictions by passing his milestone first birthday, the Sky News reported.
Jaxon Buell, from Tavares in Florida, was diagnosed with a rare brain developmental disorder called microhydranencephaly.
It means part of his brain and skull are missing.
His parents were given the chance to abort the pregnancy, but 13 months on Jaxon s doctors are saying he could enjoy a much longer life than ever anticipated.
Jaxon s story has also gone viral, with his Facebook page racking up more than 138,000 likes and social media users nicknaming him Jax Strong.
Wristbands have been made bearing the little boy s name and a fundraising page currently stands at $75,000 (£49,000).
His dad, Brandon, 30, posted an emotional message on Facebook to celebrate his son passing 13 months.
He said Jaxon was "talking up a storm these days, truly teaching himself how to communicate with us in his own way".
He added: "No matter who you are or what you believe in, it’s clear that Jaxon’s tiny footprints will have a lasting impression on this world, and that he has already touched and inspired more lives in one year than most of us ever will in our lifetime.

The Arabic-language daily al-Diyar said in a report on Thursday that the convoy of Prince Mohammad bin Salman Al Saud played a central role in the deadly crush on the third day of the annual Hajj pilgrimage earlier in the day.
The report said that Salman, who had sought to attend the huge gathering of pilgrims in Mina, a large valley about five kilometers (three miles) from Mecca, arrived at the site early on Thursday accompanied by a huge entourage.
The report said 200 army forces and 150 police officers escorted the prince.
The report said the presence of the prince in the middle of the population prompted a change in the direction of the movement of the pilgrims and a stampede.
The Lebanese daily further said that Salman and his entourage swiftly abandoned the scene, adding that the Saudi authorities seek to hush up the entire story and impose a media blackout on Salman’s presence in the area.
However, officials in Saudi Arabia have denied the report, calling it "incorrect." The Saudi health minister has blamed the pilgrims for the tragedy. "If the pilgrims had followed instructions, this type of accident could have been avoided," Khaled al-Falih said.
According to Iran's Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization more than 1,300 people, including 125 Iranians, were killed in the crush. This as Saudi officials put the death toll at 717 and the number of injured at 863.
Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has declared three days of national mourning following the incident while urging the Saudi government to “shoulder its heavy responsibility” in the stampede and “meet its obligations in compliance with the rule of righteousness and fairness.”
Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said on Thursday that Saudi Arabia should be held accountable over the death of the pilgrims. He said that the fatal crush started after Saudi security forces blocked two streets while the pilgrims were walking towards the final ritual of the Hajj.
"We can by no means remain indifferent towards Saudi Arabia's irresponsible behavior," said Amir-Abdollahian, adding, “The tactlessness on the part of relevant Saudi authorities to provide security for the pilgrims cannot be overlooked.”

حالیہ دنوں میں افغان صدر اشرف غنی نے پاکستانیوں کا دل ہی توڑ دیا۔ بی بی سی کو دیئے گئے انٹرویوں مین انہوں نے کہ پاکستانی اور افغانی کوئی بھائی بھائی نہیں ہیں۔ نریندرمودی اور بھارتی ایجنسیوں کے ہاتھوں چلنے پھرنے والے اور مودی کی زبان بولنے والے غنی بھی کرزئی سے کم نہ نکلے۔ پاکستان کی ساری وفاداریاں بھول گئے۔
غنی نے کہا کہ پاکستان کو دہشت گردوں کے خلاف ایک واضح موقف اپنانا چاہئے، دہشت گرد چاہئے افغانستان میں ہوں یا پاکستان میں۔ دہشت گردوں میں کوئی چھا یا برا نہیں ہوتا۔ اشرف غنی پاکستانی فوج کی قربانیاں نظر نہیں آرہی ہیں۔
غنی نے یہ بھی الزام لگا یا کہ پاکستان 13 سالوں سے افغانستان میں مداخلت کررہا ہے اسی وجہ سے افغانستان میں دیر پا امن نہ آسکا ہے۔

Child Brides Photo Series Proves Girls Are Simply 'Too Young To Wed'
Photographer Stephanie Sinclair's images aim to raise funds for girls forced into a practice that affects more than 14.2 million girls every year.
When Mejgon was 11 years old, her father sold her to a married 60-year-old Afghanistan man for two boxes of heroin.
“In my whole life, I’ve never felt love,” Mejgon, who endured years of abuse, told National Geographic photographer Stephanie Sinclair when she was 16.
Every year, 14.2 million girls like Mejgon are forced to marry before they turn 18, a damaging tradition that disproportionately affects poor girls and leaves them more susceptible to abuse, poverty and death due to childbirth and other health complications.
Sinclair met Mejgon at a safe house in Herat when she first began documenting the struggles and injustices child brides face. After learning that Mejgon had been sent back to live with her father, Sinclair felt emboldened to continue her photo initiative, which has now evolved into the "Too Young To Wed" series, a campaign that aims to raise awareness and funds for girls who are trapped in the cycle of child marriage.
“I have no idea what became of [Mejgon]. I’m sure it wasn’t good,” Sinclair told The Huffington Post. “The fact that I was powerless to do anything about it has been one of the main reasons why I continued the project and why I’m still working on it today.”

Sinclair started shooting child brides in Afghanistan in 2003, where 53 percent of girls marry before they turn 18. While the country banned the practice in 2009, advocates remain concerned about the effectiveness of such measures, which often go unenforced in the developing world.
However some are hopeful that the U.N.'s new Sustainable Development Goals, which aims to eliminate child marriage as part of the overall effort to achieve gender equality, could help put a stop to the practice.
Still, advocates, like Sinclair, look to on-the-ground groups, which are working to protect girls from child marriage and give them a refuge to escape if they are forced to wed.
Through Tuesday evening, Sinclair is selling the photos she’s taken in more than 10 countries from her Too Young To Wed series to support a number of organizations that are saving young, at-risk girls.
Part of the proceeds will support women and girls in Kargati Village in Nepal, which was devastated during the recent twin earthquakes. The earthquakes, which claimed more than 8,000 lives, has also subsequently put children at a higher risk of exploitation, according to UNICEF.

Thousands of Iranian protesters took to the streets today to denounce the 'incompetence' of Saudi Arabia's handling of the Hajj pilgrimage where more than 719 people were killed in a stampede.
The horrific crush, which also left hundreds wounded, happened when two giant waves of Muslims collided at an intersection near a holy site in Mina.
Saudi health Minister Khaled al-Falih blamed victims for the disaster for failing to follow instructions, adding: 'This type of accident could have been avoided. However, this is God's will.'
But pilgrims and Muslim groups hit back angrily at the claims, accusing Saudi officials of closing two key roads so dignitaries could reach a palace.
Regional rival Iran also expressed outrage at the deaths of 131 of its nationals, with politicians in Tehran suggesting that Saudi capital Riyadh was ‘incapable’ of managing the event.
Mohammed Jafari, an advisor to the Hajj and Umrah Travel tour operator in the UK, said: 'Talking to pilgrims on the ground, they say the main reason for this accident was that the King and his palace was receiving dignitaries including the minister of defence and members of the GCC (the Gulf Co-operation Council).
'For this reason, they closed two of the entrances to where the ('stoning of the devil' ritual) happens and they closed two roads... which created two bottlenecks.
'It is the fault of the Saudi government because any time a prince comes along, they close the roads and don't think about the disaster waiting to happen.'

Pakistanis still missing two days into Mina stampede
At least 316 Pakistanis still missing two days into Mina stampede
ISLAMABAD – Two days after Mina tragedy, authorities could not get information about as many as 316 missing Pakistanis.
Tando Ala Yar’s 30-year-old Aneeb Khan is among the missing persons. Former prime minister (PM) Yousaf Raza Gillani’s nephew Asad Gillani has embraced martyrdom in the stampede. Reportedly, Gilani’s body has been identified at a hospital in Mina.
At least eight Pakistanis are among the 717 martyred, 13 are among 800 injured while 316 Pakistanis are still missing. Pakistani embassy in Saudi Arabia is making efforts to get information about the missing persons.
Three Karachi women are missing following the Mina tragedy. The parents of the missing women are anxiously waiting for news of their loved ones.
According to details, Bushra is youngest among six sisters and two brothers. She lived in Riyadh for over four years because she worked for a private airline. Reportedly, she was with her three friends in Mina during the stampede.
Bushra’s parents and two of her friends Rida Iman and Khadija Saeed have not been able to contact her.
Taking notice of the incident, the PM has directed the High Commission in Saudi Arabia to begin the search operation for the missing women.

According to a World Bank report, 13.1% or one in eight people living in urban areas live below the national poverty line.
Pakistan has the lowest percentage of urban poverty among the top five most populous countries in South Asia, but the according to the World Bank statistics, the poverty level is till high compared to other Asian countries.
South Asia’s urbanization has been messy as seen in the widespread prevalence of slums. At least 130 million South Asians—equivalent to more than the entire population of Mexico—live in informal urban settlements characterized by poor construction, insecure tenure and underserviced plots.
One big reason is that its urbanization has been messy and hidden, according to the report titled, “Leveraging Urbanization in South Asia: Managing Spatial Transformation for Prosperity and Livability.”
South Asia’s policymakers, the World Bank report says, face a choice: Continue on the same path or undertake difficult and appropriate reforms to improve the region’s trajectory of development. It won’t be easy but such actions are essential in making the region’s cities prosperous and livable.
Difficulty in dealing with the pressures that increased urban populations put on infrastructure, basic services, land, housing and the environment have fostered what the report calls “messy and hidden” urbanization. This, in turn, has helped to constrain the region’s full realization of the prosperity and livability benefits of urbanization.
“If managed well, urbanization can lead to sustainable growth by increasing productivity, allowing innovation and new ideas to emerge,” said World Bank Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer Sri Mulyani Indrawati.
“Better cities can help reduce poverty, improve living conditions and create the environment for more and better paying jobs,” she added in releasing the report titled Leveraging Urbanization in South Asia: Managing Spatial Transformation for Prosperity and Livability.
Annette Dixon, Vice President for the South Asia Region of the World Bank, said policymakers in the region face a choice: Continue with the same policies or undertake reforms to tap into the unrealized potential of South Asia’s cities, where the urban population increased by 130 million from 2000 to 2011 and is poised to grow by almost 250 million in the next 15 years.
“It is essential to move forward,” Dixon said. “It won’t be easy, but with the right policies and investments, South Asia’s cities can be much more livable and prosperous.”
Since 2000, the report found, South Asia has made good strides in achieving greater prosperity with the increase in productivity linked with the growing number of people living in the region’s towns and cities.
Still, South Asia’s share of the global economy remains strikingly low relative to its share of the world’s urban population, and, in general, urbanization in the region remains underleveraged. The share of the region’s population officially classified as living in urban settlements increased only marginally from 27.4 percent in 2000 to 30.9 percent in 2011, an annual growth rate of 1.1 percent.
“A big reason South Asia is not fully realizing the potential of its cities for prosperity and livability is that its urbanization has been messy and hidden,” said Peter Ellis, a lead urban economist with the World Bank’s Social, Urban, Rural and Resilience Global Practice who helped lead the team that prepared the report.
To better tap into the economic potential that urbanization offers, South Asia’s policymakers should consider actions at two levels – the institutional level and the policy level. At the institutional level, the region would benefit from improvements in the ways in which towns and cities are governed and financed. Specifically, the report said that reform is required to address three fundamental deficits – in empowerment, resources and accountability.
Intergovernmental fiscal relations must be improved to address empowerment. Practical ways must be identified to increase the resources available to local governments to allow them to perform their mandated functions. Mechanisms must be strengthened to hold local governments accountable for their actions.
While a necessary pre-condition for meaningful progress, however, these reforms by themselves will not, according to the report, suffice. To tackle messy urbanization and bring about lasting improvements in both prosperity and livability, policies are also required to improve the ways in which cities are connected and planned, the working of land and housing markets, and cities’ resilience to natural disasters and the effects of climate change.
Civil society launches climate change awareness drive >>
The civil society of Chitral has launched an awareness campaign regarding the effects of climate change on the environment, life and economy of landlocked and improvised district. The campaign launched by a former tehsil nazim, Sartaj Ahmad Khan is approaching the general public of Chitral and civil society-based Peshawar and Chitral and briefing them about the factual position.
For successful implementation of the campaign, a core committee headed by Sartaj Ahmad Khan has been formed. Other office-bearers included Peshawar-based Chitrali Journalists Forum. The core committee is comprised of people from all walks of life, including religious scholars, students, teachers, doctors, elected representatives, traders and journalists.
As part of the campaign, the forum will contact policymakers, legislators and relevant public institutions to sensitise them about the impeding threats from the climate change and a signature campaign similar to Lowari Tunnel and other campaigns will also be launched. Talking to BR, convener of Save Chitral/Save Pakistan campaign, Sartaj Ahmad Khan said the climate of mountainous or alpine areas is changing more rapidly as compared to plain areas and this trend has made Chitral, the most vulnerable district to climate change induced disaster in particular while the entire country in general.... this is what district Chitral has been experiencing for last more than two decades.
Chitral is home to more than 540 glaciers and 137 glacial lakes, which in the year 2005 were around 187, which means that during the period of 10 years nearly 50 glacial lakes drained or resulted in glacial lake outburst floods. He said the recent flash floods, glacial lake outburst floods and other climate change induced disasters resulted in over 35 human casualties, destruction of hundreds of houses and washing away of hundreds of cattle. Almost 80 percent of the physical infrastructures including water supply schemes, irrigation channels, micro-hydel power stations, power transmission lines have been destroyed in district Chitral. Similarly, due to melting of glaciers and snow, the district during last two decades has experienced more than 12 glacial lake outbursts, which has badly affected public private infrastructure and if the present trend of glacier melting, lake outbursts and other forms of climate change induced disasters continued for another 20 to 30 years, the water discharge in River Chitral will be reduced significantly, leading to severe shortage of drinking water.
They are stressing need for planning and preventive measures to protest the district and other parts of the country from these disasters and resulting damages. After detailed deliberations has formulated a charter of demands for the sustainable development of district Chitral. The demands are included the provision of 30 megawatt free of cost electricity from Golen Gol Hydel Power Project to the district and extension of transmission line from Arundu to extreme upper parts of Chitral. Similarly, subsidised wheat on the pattern of Gilgit-Baltistan should be provided to the residents of Chitral, forest royalty to local communities should be increased by 100%, while the people of the district should be paid royalty from the Carbon Finance Funds of the United Nations. A forest force of 500 personnel should also be formed for the prudent use of forests and other associated natural resources. Furthermore, being a source of fresh water, Chitral should be entitled for water royalty and distribution of funds from PFC should be made on the basis of area and backwardness.
The government should establish the depots of LPG, natural gas and Charcoal in Chitral to reduce dependency on natural forests. The timber depot of Timergara should be relocated to Chitral and the population of the flood affected villages and valleys including Reshun, Golain, Brep, Rumboor, Booni, Sonoghor should be habilitated in more safe areas.

LG Unveils Home Entertainment Strategy at IFA 2015
LG Focuses on Furthering Innovation in Global Premium TV Market with OLED TV Leading the Way
Speaking at a roundtable at IFA 2015 in Berlin, a top official of LG Electronics (LG) revealed the company’s plan to sell five times as many OLED TVs as it did in the first half with the aim of making LG OLED the new standard of TV by the end of the year.
With a goal of selling more than one LG OLED TV per minute, Brian Kwon, executive vice president and CEO of LG’s Home Entertainment Company, cited four overarching marketing directions designed to solidify LG’s leadership role in the home entertainment market: (1) leading the global OLED TV Market with an expanded OLED TV lineup, (2) conducting enhanced marketing campaigns to expand OLED TV’s market penetration, (3) strengthening its dominant position in the smart TV platform business and (4) enhancing profitability in the audio video product segment.
Expanded OLED TV Lineup
With the world’s first high dynamic range (HDR)-enabled 4K OLED TV, LG will incorporate HDR technology in more of its OLED TV lineup. Its 4K OLED TV is expected to attract new customers with its impressive design which measures only 4.8mm at its slimmest point. With a host of new functions, design features and display formats, LG will provide a wider selection of OLED TVs to suit the tastes of different customers. LG is confident that the announcement of OLED TV products from other manufacturers will accelerate the adoption of OLED TV by more and more consumers and expand the segment within the TV market.
Enhanced Marketing Campaigns
The company will invest in a variety of marketing campaigns to increase international sales of its OLED TVs with product introduction tours and OLED displays at major airports in the world. LG is confident that strong reviews of LG OLED TVs from product testing organizations and media outlets will drive more interest in consumers. One US publication recently named LG’s OLED TV as this year’s best TV and LG’s model 65EG9600 was recognized as the “King of TV” by electronics distributor Value Electronics.
Strengthening Smart TV Platform Business
LG will continue to expand its webOS platform with more smart TV content from partners such as Netflix and YouTube, movies from local content suppliers and a range of new applications. The company will kick off an HDR content streaming service for webOS 2.0-enabled smart TV users in partnership with Amazon and roll out its Value Pack Upgrade for webOS 1.0 users which includes free features available in webOS 2.0.
Enhancing Profitability in Audio-Video
LG aims to enhance its profitability in the monitor, digital signage and audio-video business. With an unparalleled digital signage product lineup with ultra-thin displays with the world's slimmest bezel to bezel design of less than 2mm, LG hopes to secure its reputation as a provider of premium display solutions. The company will also aggressively push its high-end monitor products such as the 21:9 flat and curved monitors with 4K resolution. LG will expand its Bluetooth audio products with a lineup that adds to the curved sound bar and portable speakers announced leading up to IFA 2015.
