The Great Pakistan Adventure Explores the Untold Beauty of Cholistan Desert
The second episode of The Great Pakistan Adventure explores Cholistan’s forgotten stories of resilience, revival, and survival.
Karachi, May 30, 2026: There are places in Pakistan where the landscape feels endless, where survival depends on resilience, and where stories go back in time just as the sands that make up the place. In these parts of the country, the desert does not simply shape the land, it shapes the people who learn to live within it. The second episode of The Great Pakistan Adventure - Desert Atlas, powered by BYD, journeys deep into the heart of Cholistan, uncovering a side of Pakistan rarely explored with such depth and emotion.
Towering dunes. Endless golden horizons. Roads that disappear beneath shifting sand. Bastions of Derawar standing tall and visible across miles. Music echoing across the silence of the desert. It is about endurance. It is about revival. It is about communities whose identity has been shaped by one of Pakistan’s harshest terrains. More than just a travel experience, Desert Atlas unfolds like a cinematic portrait of Cholistan’s history, people, and spirit.
Bilal Hassan, more popularly known as Mystapaki, is a content creator, writer, and photojournalist known for documenting travel, culture, and everyday life across Pakistan. His storytelling makes him a natural fit for this journey, as he uncovers the layers of life that exist within the deserts of Cholistan and Bahawalpur, communities and histories often overlooked beneath the vastness and harshness of the landscape. Through Bilal’s narrative, the desert transforms from an unforgiving terrain into a living archive of resilience, folklore, music, and deeply human stories, revealing a side of the region that few truly experience.
One of the episode’s most powerful moments highlights the revival of the black buck, once nearly extinct in Pakistan. Set against the vast landscapes of Lal Suhanra National Park, one of South Asia’s largest national parks, the story becomes a reminder that even the harshest landscapes can still protect life when communities refuse to give up on it.
“The Black Buck is a community animal that lives with its herd, marking its territory with its hoofs”, said Yaqoob Anwar, Assistant Director Wildlife, Chinkara and Black Buck Breeding Centre, Lalsuhanra, Bahawalpur. “Each herd has an alpha male, magnificent and proud, standing out with his posture. However, when another alpha enters their territory, there are fights and also injuries, all of which need to be documented and cared for to ensure healthy growth of these animals,” he added further.
And there is a lot more that the episode explores, most notably the iconic Cholistan Desert Rally, which has transformed the desert into one of Pakistan’s most recognised off-road destinations. Along the journey, Bilal is joined by professional rally driver Muhammad Marwat, whose years of experience navigating the annual rally have given him an instinctive understanding of the terrain. With remarkable precision and ease, Marwat maneuvers the BYD Shark 6 across the shifting sands, showcasing the vehicle’s capability, control, and adaptability in one of Pakistan’s most demanding off-road environments.
Throughout the episode, the BYD Shark 6 is tested across Cholistan’s unforgiving terrain, with its dedicated sand mode allowing the vehicle to maintain traction and stability across constantly shifting dunes and soft desert surfaces. As day turns to night, its powerful headlights cut through the darkness of Cholistan’s vast and isolated landscapes, while the pickup itself becomes an extension of the journey, enabling access to places far beyond conventional routes.
Among the episode’s most emotional stories is that of Maha Hussain, a young biker from Bahawalpur whose journey reflects resilience against social expectations and environmental hardship. Supported by her father’s encouragement, Maha pursued her passion despite the challenges around her. In a deeply personal moment, she helps Mystapaki fulfill his father’s wish, which feels even more special through the narrative that this is the first thing he has ever asked from his son, Bilal. Locating the prestigious school in Bahawalpur where he had studied as a gold medalist. Can he get in and fulfill his father’s wish? That’s for you to find out.
What makes Desert Atlas truly stand apart is the way it captures the soul of Cholistan through its people, music, and untold stories. The desert may be harsh, but its music carries warmth through every note. Featuring original sounds recorded within the local community and produced by Zohaib Kazi of Coke Studio fame, the soundtrack echoes stories of longing, love, and survival, becoming an emotional extension of the land and the people who call it home.
In a time where travel content is often reduced to fleeting reels and clickbait, The Great Pakistan Adventure offers something far more lasting - stories that stay with audiences long after the journey ends. Through breathtaking landscapes, deeply human experiences, and untold communities, the series invites viewers to rediscover the beauty, diversity, and spirit of Pakistan, leaving them with a renewed sense of connection to the country and its people.

Prince Rahim Aga Khan V Concludes Landmark Pakistan Visit Amid State Honours
The Imam departed from Nur Khan Airbase in Rawalpindi, where he was seen off by Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, senior government officials and representatives of Ismaili Imamat institutions. During the farewell ceremony, he was presented with a commemorative photo album featuring key moments from the visit.
The visit held special significance as it was Prince Rahim Aga Khan V’s first official trip to Pakistan since assuming the role of Imam following the passing of his father, Prince Karim Aga Khan IV, in February last year. The Pakistani government extended an exceptionally warm welcome, highlighting the longstanding relationship between Pakistan and the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN).
Upon his arrival in Islamabad on May 20, President Asif Ali Zardari personally received him at Nur Khan Airbase — an honour typically reserved for heads of state and highly distinguished guests. A state banquet was later hosted at Aiwan-e-Sadr, attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Field Marshal Asim Munir, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, federal ministers, diplomats and senior civil and military officials. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also hosted a breakfast meeting with the Imam the following day.
Throughout the visit, Pakistani leaders praised AKDN’s contributions in education, healthcare, rural development and social welfare, particularly in remote and underserved areas. Officials described the network as one of Pakistan’s key development partners and expressed hope that the visit would further strengthen co-operation at a time when the country faces economic and social challenges.
From May 22 to 25, Prince Rahim Aga Khan V travelled to Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral, where he granted Didar to Ismaili followers at six different locations. Thousands gathered in Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral to welcome the Imam during his community engagements.
In his addresses, the Imam repeatedly stressed unity within families and communities, urging followers to strengthen trust, compassion and co-operation. He highlighted the importance of preparing younger generations for a rapidly changing and interconnected world and called for greater investment in early childhood education and stronger educational institutions capable of equipping youth for future challenges.
Prince Rahim Aga Khan V also emphasised the importance of women’s participation in social and economic life, describing partnership within households as essential for stable and prosperous communities. He further underscored the values of pluralism, mutual respect and compassion — principles long associated with the Ismaili Imamat and the development philosophy of AKDN.
At the conclusion of the visit, the Imam thanked the federal and provincial governments, as well as the people of Pakistan, for their warm hospitality and support throughout the tour.

Pakistan Freelancers Earn over $950 Million in 10 Months Despite Multiple Challenges: PAFLA
According to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), export receipts generated through freelancing in computer and information services surged to $959 million during July-April, compared to $642 million recorded during the same period of the previous fiscal year, reflecting a year-on-year growth of 49 percent, or an increase of $317 million.
Dr. Imran Batada, the newly appointed President and CEO of Pakistan Freelancers Association, said the growth in freelancers’ income was driven by the increasing participation of Pakistani freelancers on various freelancing platforms, including Upwork, Fiverr, and social media platforms.
He noted that awareness about freelancing has increased immensely among Pakistanis over the past few years, encouraging many individuals to acquire skills through online learning, private institutions, government-led training programs, and initiatives by various NGOs.
Pakistan’s freelancing community is estimated at around 3 million people, and this number should continue to grow in a structured manner through collaboration among the government, banking companies, and other stakeholders, said Imran Batada, who is also an award-winning CIO.
He further emphasized that Pakistani freelancers should continuously upgrade their skills to maintain their competitiveness on global freelancing platforms. He also urged students and young professionals to focus on acquiring advanced AI and soft skills.
PAFLA has developed a strategy to organize various onsite and online sessions across the country to enhance freelancers’ knowledge of emerging freelancing trends, business development, and payment processes.
Pakistan is close to surpassing the $1 billion milestone in export receipts generated through freelancers. This landmark achievement has been made possible through the collective efforts of the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication, the Pakistan Software Export Board, the State Bank of Pakistan, and the Special Investment Facilitation Council.

Spotify’s 2026 Investor Day Recap: Raising Ambition for the Next Era of Media
Four years after introducing the concept of the Spotify Machine, the event mapped out the next evolution: a service moving from curation and recommendation into an era of generation. Powered by a proprietary Large Taste Model and fueled by 3.4 trillion daily taste signals from the most passionate fans in the world, Spotify is building a future of truly personal, interactive media—with the ambition to give users more ways to create, discover, and connect.
Alex Norström and Gustav Söderström reflect on Spotify’s growth and frame the road ahead
Spotify’s Co-CEOs opened the day by marking Spotify’s 20th anniversary and highlighting the scale the company has built across 184 markets and 761 million active users. The platform now has nearly 300 million subscribers, making Spotify one of the largest subscription businesses in the world.
“Spotify is in the business of delivering creativity and culture to the world, helping artists, creators, and authors connect with audiences and grow their careers,” Alex said, adding that “the opportunity ahead has never been greater.”
They pointed to the progress made since the last Investor Day in 2022, including an 18% FXN revenue CAGR, a 32% gross margin, over 18 percentage points of operating margin expansion, and nearly €3 billion in free cash flow in 2025.
Together, they outlined four big ideas that will define Spotify’s next chapter.
The first is that the world operates as a power law. And for Spotify, that opens up significant monetization. As there is no “average user,” Spotify is building a portfolio of higher-ARPU (average revenue per user) products and add-ons to capture more value from its most engaged audiences. This is already proving successful, with Audiobooks+ users delivering lifetime values that are multiples of Premium-only users.
The second is that Spotify is moving from single player and passive to multiplayer and interactive. This strategic shift came directly from observing user behavior, as the service saw people organically sharing and building playlists together. Today, that behavior is scaling across the platform with features like Jam, used by almost 50 million people, and collaborative playlists, streamed by almost 50 million people, creating a network effect that strengthens real-world relationships through music.
The third centers on AI. The world is moving to generation, where users are in control and Spotify’s goal is to give them exactly that. Moving beyond curation and recommendation, the experience is now shaped by each user in real time around their specific taste, context, and intent. With features like Prompted Playlists and Taste Profile, Spotify is giving users more control and building the first media player for the generative era.
And fourth, “Time Well Spent.” Spotify consistently ranks among the most valuable time people spend online because it is not focused on maximizing engagement at any cost, but on building a durable platform that users feel good about. That matters because while people may spend time on things they regret, they’re less willing to pay for them.

LUMS Honoured at THE Awards Asia 2026 for Outstanding Support for Students
The Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) has won the Times Higher Education (THE) Awards Asia 2026 in the category of Outstanding Support for Students, recognising the University’s long-standing commitment to expanding access to higher education for talented students across Pakistan. The award acknowledges LUMS’ mission to address structural inequalities in access to opportunity and education that continue to shape lives across Pakistani society.
This work is anchored in two interconnected initiatives: the National Outreach Programme and the Student Success Initiative. Together, these initiatives reflect a sustained institutional commitment to not only expanding access, but also enabling students to thrive academically, socially, and professionally during their time at the University.
The National Outreach Programme serves as LUMS’ flagship access initiative. Through the programme, outreach teams at LUMS engage students, teachers, and families in geographically remote and economically under-resourced communities across Pakistan, encouraging high-potential students to pursue higher education opportunities that may otherwise seem beyond reach. In 2024 alone, the teams visited 276 schools across 90 cities and towns nationwide. Students selected through this process participate in a summer preparatory programme on campus, designed to prepare them for university life.
Once admitted to LUMS, which requires them to succeed on merit, students receive full financial awards for their studies and living expenses as well as support through the Student Success Initiative, which provides structured academic, mentoring, wellness, and career support throughout their time at the University. This includes peer and faculty mentoring, academic advising, tutoring, counselling, wellbeing support, career readiness programmes, alumni mentorship, and community-building initiatives designed to help students thrive both inside and outside the classroom.
The long-term impact of these efforts is reflected in the journeys of NOP scholars and alumni, many of whom have gone on to pursue leadership roles and careers across technology, finance, entrepreneurship, education, academia, development, and public service. Their achievements reflect LUMS’ broader mission of creating pathways for talented students to transform not only their own lives, but also the communities they go on to serve.

BingX Unveils "Infinite Vision" on 8th Anniversary, Accelerating Multi-Asset Expansion
BingX, a leading cryptocurrency exchange and Web3-AI company, today marked its 8th anniversary with the unveiling of its "Infinite Vision", a long-term strategy that reflects the company’s evolution from a crypto exchange into an AI-native, multi-asset trading platform.
It also embodies BingX’s ambition to go beyond crypto and build a more connected trading experience across digital assets, traditional financial markets, and emerging opportunities. The strategy is centered on four pillars: expanding multi-asset access, advancing AI-native trading, strengthening derivatives leadership, and accelerating localization.
Multi-Asset, Multi-Market
As trading increasingly extends beyond cryptocurrencies, BingX has placed a deep focus on broadening its product suite across multiple assets and market opportunities.
Through BingX TradFi, users can already trade more than 100 traditional financial products, including gold, silver, stocks, commodities, forex, and indices.
In its most recent additions, BingX announced SpaceX pre-IPO trading, and a world-first OpenAI pre-IPO airdrop on the platform, delivering exclusive traditional asset opportunities to its global users.
An AI-Native Ecosystem
At the center of Infinite Vision is the expansion of its intelligent, interconnected ecosystem. Through BingX AI, the company has built AI-native trading tools designed to simplify market analysis, strategy development, and decision-making for everyday traders.
Integrated across TradFi, copy trading, and derivatives, BingX AI connects intelligent technology with community-driven trading to create a smarter and more accessible experience for users worldwide.
Deepening Derivatives Leadership
As a top-tier global derivatives platform, BingX continues to invest in futures infrastructure, product innovation, and next-generation trading tools.
Building on recent launches such as Futures Trading 2.0 and EventX, the company is expanding its derivatives ecosystem to support a broader range of trading strategies across crypto, traditional financial markets, and event-driven opportunities.
Accelerating Global Expansion
Localization remains another major pillar of BingX’s global strategy, with the company continuing to deepen its regional presence through localized campaigns, strategic partnerships, community engagement, and offline activations. As part of its 8th anniversary celebrations, BingX will host offline community events across multiple cities globally to strengthen connections with communities.
“Infinite reflects both where the industry is heading and what BingX is building for the future,” said Pablo Monti, BingX Spokesperson. “The next generation of trading will not be limited to a single asset class, market, or technology. We envision BingX as an interconnected ecosystem, where users can seamlessly access crypto, traditional financial markets, and emerging opportunities through AI-native tools, intelligent infrastructure, and localized experiences tailored to global communities. Our mission is to build a more accessible trading platform for users worldwide.”

BingX Becomes First Exchange to Offer OpenAI Pre-IPO Airdrop
Pakistan – BingX, a leading cryptocurrency exchange and Web3-AI company, today launched OpenAI pre-IPO airdrop campaign on its platform, expanding user access to private-market exposure tied to one of the world’s most prominent artificial intelligence companies. The campaign marks BingX as the first exchange to offer an OpenAI pre-IPO airdrop, and follows the platform’s earlier rollout of SpaceX pre-IPO trading, which received strong market engagement from users.
From May 19 to May 28 (UTC+8), the airdrop campaign featured a total prize pool of more than 300,000 USDT. Eligible users can participate in a variety of trading events to claim airdrop rewards, with bonuses available for active traders, first-time users, and BingX VIP members.
The launch reflects increasing investor demand for access to high-growth private-market opportunities that have traditionally remained inaccessible to retail participants in the crypto space. Historic Decision to Lift Ban on Converting Residential Plots into Commercial Category in Karachi, Says Kaukab Iqbal
Kaukab Iqbal Calls for Strict Regulations Based on Dubai Property Law Model
Karachi - Kaukab Iqbal, Chairman of the Consumers Association of Pakistan, while talking to the media at CAP Head Office, welcomed the decision of the Federal Constitutional Court to lift the ban on converting residential plots into commercial category in Karachi. He termed it a landmark and historic decision for the development of Karachi city, promotion of business activities, and the real estate sector.
He stated that this decision will significantly increase the value of residential properties in Karachi and create new investment opportunities in the city. He further said that the Consumers Association of Pakistan appreciates the honorable court for this important judgment.
He said that the government should now introduce strict and effective regulations for builders and developers across Pakistan on the lines of Dubai property law to protect billions of rupees of consumers. He proposed that no builder or developer should be allowed to take direct bookings from the public, and all bookings should be processed through relevant government institutions under proper supervision.
He added that builders must be required to deposit a security amount with the government before launching any project, so that in case of delay, non-completion, or extra charges from buyers, the affected consumers can be compensated through the government mechanism.
He further stated that large-scale real estate frauds are being reported across the country, especially in Karachi, where innocent citizens are misled through advertisements and attractive marketing campaigns and end up booking projects but neither receive property nor refunds.
He noted that in many cases, builders are selling projects without even having physical ownership of land. He demanded the immediate establishment of a strong regulatory authority to oversee all stages of real estate projects—from booking to possession—so that consumers can be protected from fraud.
He also stressed that the government must formulate clear laws regarding the conversion of residential property into commercial use to protect residential areas. He warned that without proper regulation, residential zones may be affected by denting workshops, warehouses, distribution centers, and similar commercial setups.
He urged the government to ensure proper legal guidance so that a balance between residential and commercial usage is maintained.
He further said that thousands of buyers across Pakistan are still suffering as their investments remain stuck in various housing and development projects, and therefore both federal and provincial governments must introduce strict regulations immediately to ensure full protection of consumer rights.
He also added that he has constituted a committee under Vice Chairman CAP Muhammad Kamal Mughal to resolve the issues of consumers facing delays in property delivery by builders. The committee has also been authorized to inspect properties according to approved maps of Sindh Building Control Authority.
He said that a Property Complaint Center will soon be opened on Tariq Road, where any consumer can directly file complaints against builders.
He issued a strong warning to builders, stating: “Do not play with innocent consumers. We are standing with them to protect their rights.”

Engro Elengy Terminal Handles Country’s Largest Ever LNG vessel!
The handling of the Q-Flex vessel carrying over 210,000 cubic metres of LNG was a demonstration of the terminal infrastructure’s strength and team’s capabilities. The operation entailed a complex vessel handling. A dual-parcel discharge sequence was undertaken at the terminal safety and seamlessly while navigating tidal and draft constraints.
This accomplishment was made possible through close coordination between Port Qasim Authority (PQA), Excelerate Energy, Nakilat (NSQL), Qatar Energy, SSGC, PSO and operational teams across the terminal ecosystem.
It demonstrated the engineering capabilities and strength of all terminal teams and stakeholders. The significance of this key moment extends far beyond the size of the LNG cargo. For millions across Pakistan, it means energy will continue to flow when it is needed most.
Homes will remain powered, businesses remain operational, food and essential supplies continue to reach people, and everyday life moves forward without disruption, especially during a challenging period. Such milestones demonstrate that the readiness and availability of terminal infrastructure at all times remains key to supporting Pakistan’s energy needs.
Terminal infrastructure is more than just steel, pipelines, and ports; it enables energy continuity for people, stability for the economy, and confidence in the country’s ability to navigate complex circumstances to reach a better future.

Tanzania to Benefit from Climate-Resilient Farming and Mangrove Restoration Partnership
Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) and Agence Française de Développement (AFD) have signed a new memorandum of understanding to strengthen coastal resilience and promote regenerative agriculture in Tanzania. The agreement builds on nearly 20 years of collaboration between the French Republic, the Ismaili Imamat, and the Aga Khan Development Network, which has collectively invested more than $1 billion across 20 countries. The MoU was signed on May 12 during the Africa Forward Summit held in Nairobi.
Under the agreement, AKF and AFD will work with government authorities in mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar to protect marine and coastal ecosystems while helping smallholder farmers adopt climate-resilient agricultural practices aimed at improving food security, biodiversity, and livelihoods. An initial €38.5 million has been allocated for marine ecosystem restoration projects under AKF’s 10-year Indian Ocean “ReGeneration” initiative, which has already led to the planting of over 1.7 million mangroves along Tanzania’s coastline since 2023.
Glacial Flood Threat Looms Over Chitral, Hunza and Gilgit Regions After PMD Alert
PMD Issues Flood Warning for Chitral, Gilgit-Baltistan as Heavy Rains Expected
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Sunday warned that a moderate westerly wave is expected to enter the upper regions of the country, raising the risk of Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs), debris flows, and flash flooding in several vulnerable areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan.
According to the PMD advisory, the weather system is likely to affect Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from today and extend to Gilgit-Baltistan by tomorrow, bringing widespread rain and wind-thunderstorms to the upper parts of the country.
Isolated heavy rainfall is also expected in mountainous catchment areas during the period.
The Met Office warned that the prevailing weather conditions could significantly increase the likelihood of GLOFs and flash floods in vulnerable regions, particularly Swat, Lower Chitral, Dir, Upper Hazara, Kohistan, Hoper, Ghulkin, Shishper, Ghizer, Hunza, Nagar, Ghanche, Shigar, and Astore.
Residents living in glaciated valleys have been advised to avoid staying near riverbanks and stream beds during rainfall and remain alert for sudden changes in water colour or unusual sounds in local nullahs that may indicate debris movement.
The PMD also advised people to move livestock and essential belongings to safer and elevated locations and maintain coordination with Community-Based Disaster Risk Management Committees (CBDRMCs).
Meanwhile, disaster management authorities have been directed to ensure round-the-clock preparedness and maintain active communication with technical focal persons in remote valleys. The authorities have also been asked to disseminate weather alerts through SMS and social media platforms to ensure timely public awareness.
All concerned departments and residents of vulnerable areas have been urged to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures to avoid any untoward situation during the forecast period.
