At least 24 killed, 90 injured in Parachinar blast

Terror returned to Parachinar in Kurrum Agency on Friday when a blast outside an imambargah located in a busy market claimed the lives of 24 people and left 90 others injured.
Eyewitnesses told Geo News a vehicle parked by an unknown person outside the imambargah exploded at approximately 11AM.
Mumtaz Hussain, a doctor at the Agency Headquarters Hospital in the region told Reuters news agency that patients were being brought to them in private cars and ambulances.
To disperse the people who had gathered to protest the incident, security forces opened fire, that also injured several people.
Around 95 of the injured persons were taken to Agency Headquarters Hospital Parachinar. Medical Superintendent Sabir Hussain told Geo News 27 of the injured were sent to Peshawar via the army helicopter.
However, locals said the injured persons and their attendants were faced with difficulties at Agency Headquarters Hospital Parachinar due to the dearth of medical facilities and staff. Even though the issue was raised at the Eidgah explosion in Janruary, the hospital lacks the requirements to tackle with emergency situations.
According to MNA Sajid Hussain Turi, who was present at the site of the blast, at least 11 people have been killed while over 100 others injured. He told Geo News that blasts have occurred in Parachinar in the past as well, but no terrorist has been arrested. Turi added that the security forces instead lash out at the locals only.
The blast took place in a busy area of the city where nearly 15 to 20 shops are situated. The area was bustling at the time of the explosion, as it is Friday and people from other areas had also come for prayers.
The intensity of the blast can be gauged from the damage that has been caused to the houses and cars in the vicinity, according to Kurram Agency Political Agent Ikramullah. He added the weight of the explosive material has not yet been ascertained.
The political agent said it was not a suicide attack as the explosive material was installed in the car parked in the area.
A compensation amount of Rs500,000 each has been announced for the families of deceased people, while Rs100,000 will be given to each of the injured person.
Emergency has been declared in all the hospitals of the city. An army helicopter has been flown to Parachinar for evacuation of the injured, according to Inter Services Public Relations.
The personnel of army and Frontier Corps reached the site after the blast and cordoned the area.
The agency is considered one of the most sensitive tribal regions as it borders three Afghan provinces and was once the main route for cross-border militant activity.
In January, at least 25 people were killed and over 65 injured early in the morning when a powerful explosion ripped through a crowded marketplace in Parachinar, officials said.
The explosion had occurred early morning around 8:50AM in the city's Eidgah market, where a large number of people were shopping for fruits and vegetables.
Peshawar hospitals alerted
Since Peshawar is capital of the province that adjoins the tribal areas, three major hospitals of the city — Lady Reading Hospital, Khyber Teaching Hospital and Hayatabad Medical Complex — have been put on high alert.
However, administrations of all the three hospitals have told Geo News that so far no injured person has been brought in any of them. Some of the injured have been flown in the army helicopter to Combined Military Hospital in the city.
Neverthless, the staff has been alerted and even the nurses and doctors who were off duty, have been called in.
There is no dearth of facilities to treat the blast victims at the hospitals, said the administrations.
Condemnations
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif condemned the attack and reinforced that the government would continue with efforts to eliminate terrorism from the country. The prime minister offered condolences to the victims’ families and prayed for the swift recovery of those injured.
In a message on Twitter, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan strongly condemned the blast which targeting innocent people. He added that the chief minister of the province should ensure all medical and rescue services on an emergency basis.

Avneet’s father claimed that Haryana’s Education Minister Rambilas Sharma had promised Avneet Rs.51000/- in 2015, but was yet to receive it. Avneet’s father said he would do everything to encourage his son.

پھر دین کو چھوڑ کر وہ آگے بڑھیں یہاں تک کہ سفر مکمل ہونے کے قریب ہوا کہ اچانک چیک پوائنٹ اور ’’رک جائیے کے الفاظ‘‘ دکھائی دئیے۔
ایک شخص نے باپ کی طرف اشارہ کرکے گاڑی روکنے اور نیچے اترنے کو کہا۔

اس شخص نے کہا کہ تم یہ ہرگز نہیں کرسکتے کیوں کہ یہ سفر ختم ہوگیا اور واپسی ناممکن ہے۔
تو باپ نے کہا کہ میرے ساتھ گاڑی میں بیوی، بچے، مال، طاقت و منصب وغیرہ ہیں ۔
تو اس شخص نے جواب دیا:
یہ تمہیں اللہ کے دربار میں کسی چیز سے نہیں بچا سکتےاور یہ تمہیں چھوڑ دیں گے، اور جو چیز تمہیں فائدہ پہنچائے گی وہ دین ہے جس کو تم نے راستے میں چھوڑ دیا۔
باپ نے پوچھا تم کون ہو؟
اس شخص نے جواب دیا:
میں موت ہوں!!
جس سے تم غافل تھے اور تم نے اپنا محاسبہ نہیں کیا۔
پھر باپ نے گاڑی کی طرف دیکھا تو اس کی جگہ اس کی بیوی گاڑی چلانے لگی اور گاڑی اس کی بیوی، اولاد ، مال ، منصب اور طاقت کو لے کر سفر کاٹنے لگ گئی اور کوئی اس سے نہیں اترا۔

"In mice, the grape-enriched diet provided substantial protection of retinal function which is very exciting," said lead author Abigail Hackam from University of Miami, Florida.
Grapes promote eye health from signaling changes at the cellular level to directly countering oxidative stress, he added.
The researchers investigated whether a diet supplemented with grapes could protect the photoreceptors in mice with retinal degeneration.
The retina is the part of the eye that contains the cells that respond to light, known as photoreceptors.
Mice were either fed a grape-supplemented diet corresponding to three servings of grapes per day for humans or one of two control diets.
The results showed that retinal function was significantly protected in the mice consuming the grape-enriched diet.
They also exhibited thicker retinas.
Grape consumption also protected retinal function in an oxidative stress model of degeneration.
Further analysis revealed that the grape diet resulted in lower levels of inflammatory proteins and higher amounts of protective proteins in the retinas.
The findings were presented at the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology conference in Orlando, Florida recently. IANS

کراچی: متحدہ قومی موومنٹ (پاکستان) نے سندھ کابینہ کی منظوری کے بعد پاکستان پیپلز پارٹی (پی پی پی) کی جانب سے کراچی اور حیدرآباد میں متحدہ قومی موومنٹ (ایم کیو ایم) کے بانی کے نام پر قائم کی جانے والی الطاف حسین یونیورسٹی کا نام تبدیل کرنے کے بل کی حمایت کردی۔
اسپیکر اسمبلی آغا سراج درانی کی زیرصدارت ہونے والے سندھ اسمبلی کے اجلاس میں الطاف حسین یونیورسٹیوں کے نام تبدیل کرنے کا بل پاکستان پیپلز پارٹی (پی پی پی) کے سنیئر رکن نثار کھوڑو نے پیش کیا۔
اس موقع پر ایم کیو ایم پاکستان کے رہنما فیصل سبزواری نے اظہار خیال کرتے ہوئے کہا کہ 'ہمیں نہایت افسوس ہوتا ہے کہ ہمارے مضبوط موقف اور جدوجہد کے باوجود 70 برسوں میں بارہا ہمارے بزرگوں اور ہم لوگوں کو شک کی نگاہ سے دیکھا جاتا رہا لیکن خیر یہ ہمارا ملک ہے، ہماری سرزمین ہے اور اس کو بنانا اور چلانا ہمارا کام ہے'۔
فیصل سبزواری کا کہنا تھا کہ 'سندھ کے دل حیدرآباد میں پیپلز پارٹی کی حکومت ہے، جس کے پاس پیسے بھی ہیں اور اختیارات بھی، لہذا اسے چاہیے کہ یہاں پبلک یونیورسٹی بنائے'۔
ساتھ ہی انھوں نے مذکورہ بل کی حمایت کرتے ہوئے کہا کہ 'وقت ہے کہ حکومت سندھ پبلک سیکٹر یونیورسٹی کا قیام عمل میں لائے اور اسے کسی بھی ایسے کسی فرد کے نام سے منسوب نہ کیا جائے، جو کھل کر یا چھپ کر پاکستان کی سالمیت کے خلاف بات کرے'۔
بعدازاں نثار کھوڑو نے کہا کہ کراچی میں بنائی جانے والی یونیورسٹی کا نام 'عبد الستار ایدھی' کے نام پر رکھا جائے گا۔
اس سے قبل سندھ کابینہ نے الطاف حسین کے نام پر قائم ہونے والی یونیورسٹیوں کے نام کی تبدیلی کا فیصلہ کیا تھا۔
وزیراعلیٰ ہاؤس سے جاری ہونے والے بیان میں ترجمان کا کہنا تھا کہ اب ان یونیورسٹیوں کا نام فاطمہ جناح یونیورسٹی رکھا جائے گا۔
واضح رہے کہ دسمبر 2014 میں سندھ اسمبلی نے کراچی اور حیدر آباد میں متحدہ قومی موومنٹ (ایم کیو ایم ) کے بانی الطاف حسین کے نام سے ایک، ایک یونیورسٹی کے قیام کے بل کی منظوری دی تھی۔
ان نجی یونیورسٹیوں کو ملک ریاض کی والدہ کے نام سے تشکیل دیئے جانے والے اختر سلطانہ میموریل ٹرسٹ کے تحت چلایا جائے گا اور بورڈ آف گورنرز میں ٹرسٹ کے چار نمائندے اور پانچ نامور شخصیات شامل ہوں گی۔
تاہم گذشتہ برس 22 اگست کو بانی ایم کیو ایم کے پاکستان مخالف بیانات کے بعد سندھ کابینہ نے ان یونیورسٹیوں کے نام کی تبدیلی کا فیصلہ کیا۔
سندھ کابینہ کے آج ہونے والے اجلاس میں ان یونیورسٹیوں کا نام تبدیل کرکے فاطمہ جناح یونیورسٹی کرنے پر اتفاق کیا گیا، جسے دوبارہ سندھ اسمبلی بھیجا گیا اور اس پر اراکین سے منظوری لی گئی۔
کابینہ اجلاس کے بعد پریس کانفرنس کرتے ہوئے صوبائی وزیر صحت سکندر مہیندرو نے بتایا کہ یونیورسٹیوں کے نام کی تجویز مشترکہ تھی۔
انھوں نے کہا کہ 'الطاف حسین نے جو بیان دیئے تھے، ان کے بعد میرے خیال میں ایسے آدمی کے نام ہر اگر یونیورسٹی بنائی گئی تو اس کا مطلب یہ ہے کہ ہم بھی اپنا فرض ٹھیک طرح سے ادا نہیں کر رہے'۔
صوبائی وزیر نے کہا کہ 'ہمارے ضمیر نے ہم پر دباؤ ڈالا کہ پاکستان کے خلاف بات کرنے والے شخص کو اتنی اہمیت نہیں دینی چاہیے'۔
یاد رہے کہ 22 اگست 2016 کو کراچی پریس کلب پر بھوک ہڑتال کیمپ میں بیٹھے ایم کیو ایم کارکنوں سے خطاب کے دوران الطاف حسین نے نہ صرف پاکستان مخالف نعرے لگائے تھے بلکہ ملک کو پوری دنیا کے لیے ایک 'ناسور' بھی قرار دیا تھا، جس کے بعد کارکن مشتعل ہوگئے اور انھوں نے ریڈ زون کے قریب ہنگامہ آرائی کی، اس دوران کچھ کارکن نجی ٹی وی چینل اے آر وائی نیوز کے دفتر میں گھس گئے اور وہاں نعرے بازی کرتے ہوئے توڑ پھوڑ کی جب کہ فائرنگ سے ایک شخص ہلاک ہوگیا۔
دوسری جانب اگلے ہی روز یعنی 23 اگست کو الطاف حسین نے اپنی تقریر میں پاکستان کی اسٹیبلشمنٹ بشمول آرمی چیف، ڈی جی رینجرز میجر اور پاکستان کے خلاف الفاظ استعمال کرنے پر معافی مانگ لی تھی۔
اس واقعے کے بعد ڈاکٹر فاروق ستار نے بانی ایم کیو ایم سے لاتعلقی کا اعلان کرتے ہوئے پارٹی معاملات پاکستان سے چلانے کا اعلان کیا، جبکہ پارٹی منشور میں بھی تبدیلی کردی گئی تھی۔

People of #Kalash seek separate column in population census
Chitral: The Kalash community has filed an application in the Peshawar High Court seeking their religion be mentioned separately in the form for the ongoing population and housing census.
Several representatives of the minority community renowned for their distinct lifestyle and culture submitted the application expressing concern that the census form does not mention them.
They demanded that the Kalash should be included separately in the minority list of the census form as they have a distinct culture and religion.
Kalash social activists Wazirzada, Lok Rehmat and Shah Hussain along with several councilors took the initiative to knock at the court.
They pleaded the court to include the name of Kalash in the census form, and instruct the government to ensure that the decision is implemented.
Kalash are considered the smallest religious community in Pakistan numbered at around 4000 residing in Chitral district. They claim descent from Macedonian soldiers associated with Alexander’s invasion but no research supports this claim.
Kalash are polytheists and nature plays a highly significant and spiritual role in their life. They have maintained their culture but in recent time have faced increasing threats from extremists.

The National Incubation Center (NIC) hosted a session on “Do’s and Don’ts of Starting a Business” delivered by America’s best- selling author, columnist, Rhett Power. #Mortein introduced innovative technology to combat dengue – Mortein ‘killer-boards’
Karachi: Mortein has introduced ground breaking killer-boards to reduce the incidence of Dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases in Pakistan. The killer-boards are well capable of killing hundreds of Aedes mosquitoes every day. The initiative is in continuance of their ‘Dengue Se Paak Pakistan’ campaign aimed at reducing Dengue across Pakistan.
In the past 6 years, Pakistan has witnessed massive outbreaks of Dengue with over 65,000 cases reported nationwide. In 2016 alone, 3,000 cases were reported in Punjab while Sindh accounted for over 2,000 cases of dengue victims. Most of the cases originated from semi urban areas and major metropolitan cities while unplanned settlements and rural areas equally fell prey to the consequences of the disease.

LIMA- In what appears to be a miracle, as many as 141 passengers managed to escaped unscathed after Peruvian Airlines plane bursts into flames midair here on Wednesday.
According to reports, the Peruvian Airlines plane travelling from Lima landed after skidding off at the Francisco Carle Airport in Jauja. Images posted on social media showed plane catching fire.
In a statement posted to Twitter, Peruvian Airlines said the plane turned off the runway upon landing at 4:30 p.m. local time.
‘All 141 passengers on board the Boeing aircraft were evacuated from the plane; none were considerably injured’ the airline said.
Alberto Lopez, a spokesman for Peruvian Airlines, emphasized that the plane did not crash, though.
‘The investigators are traveling to Jauja tomorrow [Wednesday] at 5 am and our emergency team is in place and that is all we can say. The plane did not crash, it landed and then the fire was produced once the plane was on the ground but the exact cause of fire will be explained once the investigation has been completed’ he said.
The aircraft caught fire as a consequence of the “forced landing,” the Peruvian Ministry of Transport and Communication said in a statement. (WebDesk)

President invites Prince Karim Aga Khan to visit #Pakistan
ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain on Wednesday extended an invitation to His Highness the Aga Khan to visit Pakistan during his Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
He was talking to President Aga Khan Council for Pakistan Hafiz Sherali at Aiwane Sadr. The president appreciated the socio-economic services rendered by the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), the Aga Khan Foundation and the Aga Khan Health Service in Pakistan.
President Mamnoon received a letter of felicitation from His Highness the Aga Khan on the occasion of Pakistan Day.
The president said continued engagement of AKDN in Pakistan, especially the northern areas, was making a visible difference in the lives of people and infrastructure in the country.
