Fasset Secures Sandbox License to Launch Pakistan’s First Tokenized Gold Solution

Fasset Secures Sandbox License to Launch Pakistan’s First Tokenized Gold Solution

Islamabad: Fasset, a global digital asset platform committed to driving financial inclusion in high-growth markets, has announced the launch of Pakistan's first gold tokenization solution under a Regulatory Sandbox license granted by the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP). Through this pioneering initiative, Fasset is leveraging blockchain technology to enable secure, transparent, and fractionalized investments in physical gold, empowering Pakistanis across all income levels to own fractions of gold and benefit from its historic stability and value.

The introduction of tokenized gold marks a major milestone for Pakistan's financial ecosystem, aligning with Fasset's broader mission of making wealth-building tools universally accessible. At a time when Pakistan's economy faces challenges such as high inflation and a depreciating currency, gold remains a trusted hedge against economic uncertainty. However, traditional methods of investing in gold have often been out of reach for many due to high upfront costs, risks associated with physical storage, and limited accessibility.

Fasset's gold tokenization solution directly addresses these barriers by allowing individuals to invest in micro-units of gold, starting with as little as 100 PKR. Using blockchain technology, each transaction is fully auditable and secure, significantly reducing risks of fraud and enhancing regulatory transparency. This innovative approach not only protects investors against inflation and currency devaluation but also promotes broader financial inclusion and supports the growth of a more liquid and efficient gold market in Pakistan.

The new service is being rolled out under SECP's Regulatory Sandbox framework, where it will undergo live testing to validate its operational processes, user experience, and scalability before expanding its reach nationwide. Fasset's platform enables users to register accounts through secure KYC verification, deposit funds, purchase gold tokens backed 1:1 by physical gold, track their investments in real-time, and even convert their digital holdings into physical gold once a specified threshold is met, with delivery managed by trusted local partners.

Commenting on the launch, Mohammad Raafi Hossain, CEO and Co-Founder of Fasset, said, "At Fasset, our mission has always been to democratize access to wealth-building tools, especially in markets where traditional financial systems have left many behind. By launching Pakistan's first gold tokenization solution, we're giving people a safe, transparent, and affordable way to invest in one of the world's most trusted stores of value. In a time of economic uncertainty, we're proud to offer a solution that empowers individuals to protect and grow their wealth."

This initiative is expected to significantly enhance access to safe investment options for millions of Pakistanis while boosting confidence in digital financial assets and contributing to the formalization of the local economy.

AKU, Local and Global Partners Launch Landmark Malaria Elimination Project in Thatta

AKU, Local and Global Partners Launch Landmark Malaria Elimination Project in Thatta

Karachi: The Aga Khan University (AKU) marked World Malaria Day with the launch of the Thatta Malaria Elimination Plan (TMEP), a pioneering project designed to eliminate malaria from one of Pakistan's most malaria-affected regions. In 2023 alone, Thatta reported over 10,000 cases — the highest burden in the country.

Malaria continues to be a global health crisis, with 247 million cases and 619,000 deaths reported worldwide. In the South-East Asia region, Pakistan remains a significant contributor to ongoing transmission, with 95% of the country's population at risk. The disease not only places immense pressure on the health system but has severe repercussion on the nation's social and economic development.

"This is not just a health issue," said Prof. M. Asim Beg, Principal Investigator and TMEP Project Lead. "It's a multidimensional challenge driven by socioeconomic vulnerabilities, post-flood consequences, limited healthcare access, and climatic changes that allow the disease to thrive. Thatta is an ideal region to pilot diverse intervention strategies."

The launch event also introduced the Malaria Elimination Consortium, established by AKU in 2023 to support the national elimination strategy. The Consortium laid the foundation for the TMEP as a locally grounded, data-driven response to malaria elimination. The TMEP's vision is ambitious – to transform Thatta into a malaria-free zone and create a replicable, sustainable model for elimination that can be scaled across Sindh, Pakistan, and other malaria-endemic regions globally.

Led by AKU, the Plan was established in collaboration with the Government of Pakistan, the Government of Sindh, and the Directorate of Malaria Control. It is also backed by several international partners including GLIDE, Zenysis Technologies, and Universidade NOVA de Lisboa. Together, they bring financial resources, data and technology expertise, and global insights to the project.

The TMEP is also strengthening collaboration between national, provincial, and district-level actors, setting the stage for future scale-up across the country. Dr Azra Pechuho, Sindh's Minister for Health and Patron-in-Chief of the project, praised the partnership saying, "The Government of Sindh is proud to support this incredible initiative, which has the potential to uplift suffering communities across Sindh."

The Plan will also integrate findings from the international EFFORT clinical trial, which introduced novel treatment options for malaria. These new methods hold strong potential in solving one of malaria's longstanding challenges in Pakistan – treatment abandonment. Dr Salim Virani, Vice Provost Research at AKU, shared, "What made this trial unique was our commitment to testing treatment options as close to real-world conditions as possible. Conducted in Karachi and Thatta — two malaria hotspots — the trial found that two new treatments dramatically reduced recurrence rates. One treatment in particular – a single-dose of Tafenoquine – shows great promise for malaria control in Pakistan."

The Thatta Malaria Elimination Plan aligns perfectly with this year's World Malaria Day theme "Malaria Ends With Us: Reinvest, Reimagine, Reignite." The project also aims to achieve a strengthened health system with increased capacity for malaria diagnosis, treatment, and surveillance and a greater community involvement in malaria prevention and control, leading to long-term behavioral change and ownership at the grassroots level.

Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad Lead Demand as inDrive Achieves Historic Growth in Pakistan

inDrive Delivery sees record growth during Ramadan and Eid, driven by service improvements and community connection

Karachi: inDrive, the global peer-to-peer ride-hailing and delivery platform, has achieved its highest-ever growth in Pakistan's delivery services during March 2025, with a record-breaking surge in demand during the week of Eid.

As families gathered for iftars, shared Eid gifts, and businesses prepared for one of the busiest retail periods of the year, inDrive was there to support them with fast, affordable, and reliable delivery services. Compared to the previous month, deliveries grew by 14%, with March 30 marking the company's busiest day to date in Pakistan — 1.5 times more completed rides than the previous Eid. Among the most delivered items were food and beverages for evening meals, festive clothing and accessories, and essential medicines, showing just how deeply inDrive is embedded in the rhythms of daily life. Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad saw the highest demand, confirming inDrive's strong presence across the country.

inDrive Shatters Records in Pakistan: 14% Growth in March Deliveries During Eid Surge

"This incredible momentum shows that we're not just a delivery platform — we're a part of the community," said Muhammad Awais Seed, Country Lead at inDrive. "Our goal is to support people with services that are fast, fair, and easy to use — especially during meaningful times like Ramadan and Eid".

inDrive's growing popularity is driven by features that people and businesses already love. Individuals appreciate the freedom to choose their courier and negotiate prices using the platform's unique model, which ensures flexibility and affordability. High availability of couriers means that help is never far away, whether someone's sending a last-minute iftar dish or a carefully packed Eid present. For instance, in Lahore, users can find a courier within 1-2 minutes, on average, a courier typically picks up a package within around 6 to 7 minutes, and delivers it in less than 30 minutes.

For business customers, inDrive offers tailored last-mile delivery solutions that simplify logistics. Companies can request deliveries to multiple addresses in a single trip, assign up to 200 orders at once, and customize delivery routes — all while monitoring progress in real time. These tools help businesses stay responsive and efficient during high-demand periods, making inDrive a vital partner for retailers, restaurants, and pharmacies alike.

And the service keeps evolving. This spring, inDrive introduced a new feature — delivery confirmation code — to enhance security and peace of mind. Now, each delivery is verified through a unique code exchanged between the courier and recipient, ensuring safe and confirmed handoffs, even at the busiest times.

As inDrive continues to expand in Pakistan, its mission remains clear: to empower people and businesses, to offer practical and fair alternatives, and to be a trusted part of everyday life — especially when it matters most.

P@SHA Calls for 10-Year Tax Extension to Sustain IT Sector's Historic Export Growth

P@SHA Calls for 10-Year Tax Extension to Sustain IT Sector's Historic Export Growth

IT Exports Soar to Record Highs: P@SHA Seeks Policy Reforms to Drive Further Growth

Pakistan's IT sector is witnessing unprecedented growth, with exports reaching record-breaking levels. In light of this, the Pakistan Software Houses Association (P@SHA) has urged the federal government to extend the concessional final tax regime (FTR) on IT and IT-enabled services (ITeS) exports for an additional ten years, until 2035. Currently set to expire in June 2026, the FTR imposes a reduced 0.25% withholding tax on export earnings of PSEB-registered entities. P@SHA argues that extending the FTR is essential to maintaining export momentum, attracting foreign investment, and ensuring long-term stability in Pakistan's digital economy.

Highlighting the IT sector's potential, P@SHA Chairman Sajjad Mustafa Syed stated that the proposed extension aligns with the national vision of exponential growth in technology exports. The IT industry has seen substantial investments, operational expansions, and diversification in export markets, supported by favorable policies and exchange rates. In March 2025, IT exports hit an all-time high of $342 million, marking 18 consecutive months of growth. Total exports for the first nine months of FY2025 reached $2.8 billion, and analysts predict the full-year figure will range between $3.5 and $3.7 billion, setting the stage for achieving the ambitious $10 billion export target by FY2029.

Talent Drain and Tax Policy Hurdles Threaten Pakistan's IT Industry Momentum

To sustain growth, P@SHA has also emphasized the need to address other pressing issues, such as income tax disparities causing talent migration. Syed highlighted that significantly higher income tax rates in Pakistan compared to competitor nations are leading to a brain drain, making it difficult for local companies to retain skilled professionals. P@SHA has called for a reduction in income tax rates for IT employees to unlock the sector's full potential and curb this trend.

Additionally, P@SHA has recommended the removal of withholding tax (WHT) on US dollar payments to non-resident service providers engaged in re-export services. Such payments, made from Exporters' Special Foreign Currency Accounts, currently attract a 15% WHT under Pakistan's Income Tax Ordinance. Syed argued that exempting these payments would streamline cross-border transactions, encourage the inflow of funds, and simplify operations for IT exporters. With growing optimism in the sector, industry stakeholders believe that long-term tax and policy reforms are crucial to sustaining the current trajectory of success.

OICCI President calls for unified economic execution to unlock Pakistan’s true potential

Karachi: Speaking at a high-level economic forum on "Navigating the Unknown," Yousaf Hussain, President of the Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OICCI), urged the government and national stakeholders to commit to a unified, future-ready economic execution strategy driven by planning, technocratic leadership, and collaboration.

Representing over 200 leading multinational companies operating in Pakistan, Mr. Hussain called for the creation of a comprehensive National Economic Execution Plan — integrating trade, industry, fiscal, energy, and human development policies — each led by experts and aligned under a single national economic framework.

He highlighted Pakistan's youth bulge and geo-economic positioning as strategic assets that must be leveraged through skills development, export diversification, and regional trade integration. He also emphasized the full inclusion of women and digital transformation as critical enablers of economic progress.

"Multinational companies operating in Pakistan are not just investors — they are centres of excellence and engines of innovation," Mr. Hussain said. He urged the government to engage the industry players in private sector early — as partners — in planning and delivery, while improving ease of doing business and building a credible national investment narrative.

"This is Pakistan's decisive decade — we must stop managing crises and start designing the future," he concluded.

Pervaaz Campaign Celebrated in Brussels for Driving Digital Awareness on Migration in Pakistan

Pervaaz Campaign Celebrated in Brussels for Driving Digital Awareness on Migration in Pakistan

Islamabad: The Pervaaz Campaign, launched under the European Union-funded SAFER Project (Safe and Legal Alternatives for Pakistani Potential Migrants and Migrants on the Route), received widespread recognition at the final SAFER event held in Brussels for its transformative role in raising awareness around irregular migration among Pakistani youth.

At the gathering—hosted at the Press Club Brussels Europe on April 7, 2025, and attended by migration experts, EU stakeholders, and international partners—the campaign was highlighted as a model of impactful, community-based digital engagement. Through emotionally resonant storytelling, regional influencer partnerships, and multilingual content, Pervaaz created meaningful dialogue around dignified and informed migration choices.

Backed by the European Union Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF) and implemented by the European Research Institute (ERI) in partnership with Cirrus Pakistan, as the local implementation partner in Pakistan, the Pervaaz Campaign successfully bridged the information gap faced by vulnerable communities, particularly in rural and low-literacy areas.

Key achievements included:

● 8.9 million video views, 8.4 million impressions, and 4.7 million reach across platforms
● 449 pieces of original content across Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok
● Over 22,000 organic re-shares and 87,000+ audience interactions
● 96% of Instagram engagement came from non-followers, indicating strong content discovery
● Hundreds of direct messages from youth seeking trusted information about legal migration options
Speaking at the event, Ayesha Jamal, CEO of Cirrus Pakistan, shared:

"The Pervaaz Pakistan campaign wasn't just about spreading information—it was about shifting mindsets, building trust, and offering real alternatives rooted in dignity, safety, and hope. We set out to start a conversation, and what we saw was a genuine response—a community ready to engage, ask questions, and rethink their choices. The response showed that there is a strong need for platforms that offer clear, credible guidance—especially in communities where such information can be hard to access."
More than just a campaign, Pervaaz has become a digital movement, offering young Pakistanis clear, credible guidance on safe migration, vocational alternatives, and informed

decision-making. Its continued presence via @PervaazPakistan on social platforms and its dedicated web portal ensures ongoing access to these vital resources.
Over the last two years, the SAFER Project—funded by the EU Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF) and led by the European Research Institute (ERI) has worked to address the root causes and risks of irregular migration from Pakistan to Europe.

In close collaboration with ERI, Cirrus Pakistan has delivered a dynamic mix of strategic communications, digital media campaigns, strategic influencer engagement, and localized storytelling to empower at-risk communities. Together, the teams have worked tirelessly to bring clear, credible, and culturally relevant information to young Pakistanis navigating complex decisions around migration.

At the heart of this initiative lies the Pervaaz platform—a digital and social media movement that continues to provide accessible, trustworthy content on legal migration pathways, vocational opportunities, and alternatives to irregular migration. The campaign's tone of empathy, dignity, and clarity has positioned it as a go-to resource for safe migration awareness across Pakistan.
