At least 53 people have been killed and 63 injured in a reported strike on a girls’ school in Minab, located in southern Iran, according to the state news agency IRNA. Initial reports indicated a lower death toll, but later updates showed a sharp rise in casualties as more information emerged from the scene.

Local sources said there are fears that students and teachers may still be trapped under the rubble, with rescue operations ongoing. Iranian authorities stated that the strike occurred during school hours while students and staff were present inside the building.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi shared an image from the site on social media, saying the attack took place in broad daylight at a primary school for girls and resulted in the killing of dozens of children. He condemned the incident and said those responsible would be held accountable. Officials also noted that Minab hosts a base belonging to Iran’s paramilitary forces, making the city strategically significant.

Gas Explosion in Soldier Bazaar Leaves Six Dead, Eleven Injured

A tragic incident occurred in Karachi during the pre-dawn meal (Sehri) when a gas cylinder exploded in Soldier Bazaar. LUMS Policy Dialogue Calls for Evidence-Based Reforms in Girls’ Education and Minority Inclusion

LAHORE: A high-level policy dialogue at LUMS called for stronger evidence-based reforms to improve girls' retention in middle school and enhance inclusion for children from religious minority backgrounds.
The third Policy Dialogue, convened by the Data and Research in Education – Research Consortium (DARE-RC) in collaboration with the Syed Ahsan Ali and Syed Maratib Ali School of Education at LUMS, brought together senior policymakers, researchers, and development partners to translate research findings into practical policy measures.

Speaking at the event, Mudassar Riaz Malik, Secretary, School Education Department, Punjab, underscored the operational importance of research-policy collaboration. He stated, "This policy dialogue is extremely important for us. We need to ground our decisions in evidence and move firmly toward evidence-based policymaking, not policy-based evidence-making. The issue is not always policy often it is structural. Our responsibility is to convert research recommendations into concrete, implementable action plans that strengthen the education system."

He stressed that sustained engagement between academia and government is essential to address dropout trends, improve accountability, and ensure inclusive reforms across the education system.

Earlier, Ben Warrington, Head of the British High Commission Office in Lahore (FCDO), highlighted the need to connect research with reform, noting that strengthening education requires an ecosystem approach and practical decision-making grounded in evidence. He remarked, "Strengthening an education system takes an entire ecosystem. It is crucial to connect rigorous research to policy action and practical decision-making."

The session featured presentations by Dr. Zainab Latif, Senior Fellow, Tabadlab, who shared findings on barriers contributing to girls' middle-school dropout, and Dr. Ibtasam Thakur, HOD Special Education, Lahore College for Women University, who presented research on the educational experiences of children from religious minority backgrounds.

The interactive panel discussion also included LUMS faculty members, Drs. Faisal Bari and Tayyaba Tamim, alongside policymakers and development experts, focusing on retention strategies, teacher training reforms, and strengthening inclusive education frameworks.

The dialogue reinforced the importance of coordinated reforms and sustained collaboration to advance equitable and quality education in Pakistan.

Jazz and Universal Service Fund Sign Badin Project to Expand Digital Connectivity in Sindh

Jazz  and the Universal Service Fund (USF) have taken another step to expand digital connectivity in Sindh with the signing of the Badin Project, aimed at bringing reliable mobile voice and broadband services to underserved communities in District Badin.

The agreement, formalized at a ceremony in Karachi, reflects a shared effort to extend meaningful digital access to areas where connectivity has remained limited. The ceremony was attended by the Honorable Governor of Sindh, Mr. Kamran Tessori, and the Federal Minister for IT & Telecom, Ms. Shaza Fatima, as Chief Guests. The project marks continued progress in strengthening telecom infrastructure to support inclusive digital access across the province.

The PKR 668 million Badin Project will strengthen telecom access in the district by deploying 45 new telecom sites and upgrading four existing ones, extending reliable voice and high-speed mobile broadband services to 144 unserved and underserved mauzas and reaching an estimated 0.43 million people. The expanded network will support access to digital financial services, online learning, telehealth, and government e-services, while enabling small businesses and farmers with improved digital tools and generating direct and indirect employment during deployment and operations.

سال 2025 موبی لنک بینک کے لیے مستحکم مالیاتی سال ثابت ہوا۔ بینک کا منافع قبل از ٹیکس 3.62 ارب روپے تک پہنچ گیا جو گزشتہ سال کے مقابلے میں 217 فیصد اضافہ ظاہر کرتا ہے، جبکہ مجموعی آمدن 33 فیصد بڑھ کر 89.5 ارب روپے ہو گئی۔ بینک کے ڈپازٹس 38 فیصد اضافے سے 214 ارب روپے تک پہنچ گئے، جو مائیکروفنانس کے شعبے میں سب سے زیادہ ہیں اور اس سے صارفین کے بھرپور اعتماد کا اظہار ہوتا ہے۔ گراس لون پورٹ فولیو 38 فیصد اضافے سے 103 ارب روپے تک پہنچ گیا۔ سال کے اختتام پر بینک نے 19.53 فیصد کی مضبوط کیپیٹل ایڈیکویسی ریشو (CAR) برقرار رکھی، جو اس کی مستحکم مالی بنیاد اور محتاط رسک مینجمنٹ کی عکاسی کرتی ہے۔

Islamabad – Pakistan’s leading digital microfinance bank, Mobilink Bank has announced its financial results for the year ended December 31, 2025. The bank delivered strong growth across key financial and operational indicators while reinforcing its leadership position in Pakistan’s microfinance banking sector. 

Mobilink Bank delivered a strong financial turnaround in 2025, with Profit Before Tax reaching PKR 3.62 billion, reflecting a 217% YoY growth, while total revenue rose 33% to PKR 89.5 billion. Russian, German, and English Editions of the Book “Najmi Healing Energy” Published

Karachi: Najmi Healing Energy, an Islamic spiritual-scientific healing method, was first introduced through the book Najmi Shifai Tawanai (Najmi Healing Energy) authored by Dr. Syed Shahzad Ali Najmi.

The book was originally published in Urdu in July 2013 by Al-Sehat Foundation, Karachi, Pakistan. In response to growing international interest, the work has now been released in several major global languages.

The Russian edition was published on November 17, 2025, by Najmi International, Moscow, Russia. The German edition was released on July 10, 2025, in Berlin, Germany, while the English edition was published on July 2, 2025, in Denver, USA.

All editions of the book are available free of charge online for study and to promote the dissemination of knowledge worldwide.

Dr. Syed Shahzad Ali Najmi, a Pakistani Sufi inspired by the renowned spiritual figure Qalander Baba Auliya, developed this healing system after recognizing the need for an Islamic spiritual alternative to contemporary energy-healing practices. PDA and United Nations University Sign MoU for GovAI, launching a Scalable AI Training Model to Empower Governments Globally

Islamabad: The Pakistan Digital Authority (PDA) and the United Nations University (UNU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at Indus AI Week 2026 to accelerate Project GovAI, a Digital Micro-Learning & Upskilling Program for Civil/Public Servants. Coordinated by UNU-EGOV, the collaboration will draw on experts across the UNU system, including UNU-IAS (Tokyo, Japan), UNU-MERIT (Maastricht, the Netherlands) and the UNU Institute in Macao, among others.

 

GovAI is designed to help enable the AI upskilling of 1+ million Pakistani civil servants by 2028. This supports PDA's leadership role in Pakistan's five-year Digital Master Plan by focusing on the capability layer needed to deliver modern, trusted digital public services. The MoU establishes a time-bound discovery and testing phase to assess learning design, curriculum architecture and platform options; run early pilots (micro-trainings, webinars and e-learning) to validate localisation, engagement and measurement; and produce an evidence-based decision package and sustainability model for potential scale-up.

 

The partnership reflects the global economic stakes of digital and AI transformation. The IMF notes AI could "jumpstart productivity" and boost growth, while major analyses estimate generative AI could add US$ 2.6 – US$ 4.4 trillion annually in economic value and potentially lift global GDP by around 7% over time.

 

Over time, PDA and UNU will explore whether GovAI can evolve into a reusable and sustainable national and global digital public good, including modular learning pathways, implementation playbooks and governance approaches that other countries can adapt for responsible AI capacity building in government.

The issue surfaced following an investigative report by Nepalese media outlet AarthikNews, which alleges that Hemraj Dhakal, Vice-Chairman of Nepal’s IME Group, structured transactions enabling the outflow of approximately USD 4 million (NPR 570 million / PKR 1.1 billion) under the cover of FDI-related arrangements.

While the matter remains under investigation in Nepal, financial and regulatory experts say the case highlights structural vulnerabilities that can arise when multinational digital platforms operate through layered corporate, licensing, and investment arrangements — particularly in jurisdictions with foreign exchange controls and evolving oversight of digital services.

Pakistan Urged to Review inDrive Status After Nepal Investment Controversy

Questions for Pakistani Regulators

Industry observers argue that the developments in Nepal warrant a closer, preventive review by relevant Pakistani regulators, including the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) and Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), given InDrive’s operational presence in major Pakistani cities.

Key areas experts suggest may merit examination include:

●     Nature of Legal Presence:
Whether InDrive operates in Pakistan through a locally incorporated subsidiary, a foreign company branch, or third-party contractual arrangements, and how ownership, control, and decision-making authority are structured.

●     Capital and Payment Flows:
Whether any funds categorized as foreign investment, technology fees, service charges, commissions, or royalties are being remitted abroad, and under which regulatory permissions or exemptions.

●     Tax and Transfer Pricing Compliance:
How revenues generated in Pakistan are being reported, taxed, and reconciled with payments to foreign parent or affiliated entities, including alignment with transfer pricing regulations.

●     Profit Repatriation Mechanisms:
Whether commission-based or revenue-sharing models could function as indirect capital outflows without triggering enhanced regulatory review.

Analysts emphasize that these questions are preventive in nature and do not imply wrongdoing in Pakistan, but reflect the need for transparency and consistency in oversight of fast-growing cross-border digital platforms.

According to publicly available corporate records, SUOL Innovations Ltd., a Cyprus-registered entity, serves as the parent company for InDrive’s local operating companies worldwide and holds the intellectual property rights to the InDrive application. Local InDrive entities operate under licensing, service, or affiliate arrangements connected to this parent company.

While centralized ownership of intellectual property is common among multinational technology platforms, experts caution that such structures can create material cross-border financial flows, including licensing fees, technology payments, and intercompany service charges. In jurisdictions with foreign exchange regulations and capital controls, these mechanisms are typically subject to heightened disclosure, valuation scrutiny, and regulatory approval.

Financial analysts stress that the existence of a foreign IP-holding parent company does not in itself indicate misconduct, but underscore the importance of clear regulatory visibility into how such arrangements impact capital movement, taxation, and compliance with anti–money laundering and counter-terror financing frameworks.

Learning From the Nepal Case

According to the Nepalese investigation, the alleged transaction involved routing funds through foreign-registered entities, followed by rapid share valuation adjustments that facilitated significant capital transfers abroad. The matter reportedly came to light only after a local bank declined to process a foreign exchange settlement.

Experts caution that similar regulatory blind spots — if left unaddressed — could expose other jurisdictions to financial integrity risks, particularly in countries managing FATF compliance obligations and capital account restrictions.

Call for Proactive Oversight

Financial observers note that Pakistan has previously strengthened oversight of fintech firms, ride-hailing platforms, and digital service providers. They argue that early-stage regulatory review, rather than reactive enforcement, can help ensure:

●     Compliance with SBP foreign exchange regulations

●     Alignment with SECP corporate disclosure and ownership requirements

●     Adherence to FIA AML/CFT frameworks

●     Consistent monitoring by FBR of Pakistani-registered entities and cross-border payments

The Index showed women at the forefront of AI adoption, integrating a diverse range of AI tools. A significant 49% of women-led businesses use natural language processing (NLP) tools such as ChatGPT, 43% utilize data analytics and pattern recognition, and 43% employ Chatbots or virtual assistants. They rely on business mentors or coaches (40%) for advice, indicating a strong value placed on guidance and development. Lahore — The Lahore Biennale Foundation (LBF) has announced the appointment of Nav Haq as Curator for the fourth edition of the Lahore Biennale (LB04), scheduled to open in Lahore in Spring 2027.

The announcement was made at a ceremony held in Lahore, attended by leading figures from the cultural, academic, and public sectors. The event was graced by Zafar Masud, President & CEO of the Bank of Punjab, who attended as Chief Guest, reflecting the Bank of Punjab's continued support for arts, culture, and public cultural institutions.

LB04 will present newly commissioned artworks, large-scale installations, and public programmes across a range of historical, civic, and public spaces in Lahore, continuing the Biennale's tradition of engaging the city and its communities through contemporary art.

Nav Haq is a curator and writer based in Antwerp, Belgium. He currently serves as Associate Director at M HKA – Museum of Contemporary Art Antwerp, where he leads the artistic programme, and is an editor at Afterall journal. He has previously held curatorial positions at Arnolfini, Bristol, and Gasworks, London, and has organised numerous major exhibitions internationally. Most recently, he was part of the curatorial team for the Kyiv Biennial 2025, presented at the Museum of Modern Art Warsaw and M HKA.
