Byco’s SPM Imports 10 million tons of POL products; celebrates 6 years of safe operations

10 Million Tons of POL products imported since commissioning of Byco’s Single Point Mooring (SPM) in 2012
Byco’s SPM has continuously operated safely since its launch in 2012, including through monsoon periods

(Karachi, 30 January 2018). Pakistan’s leading oil company, Byco Petroleum’s Single Point Mooring (SPM) has imported 10 million tons of POL products and celebrated six years of safe continuous operations since its inception today. Byco’s SPM has been operating since 2012 including the severe monsoon season, which was previously considered impossible for the area. Byco’s SPM is Pakistan’s only floating terminal and revolutionizes the handling of crude oil and refined petroleum products in the country. The SPM has been set up in the deep sea and is connected to a storage tank via 15 km of both on-shore and sub-sea pipelines. Byco has a storage capacity of 243,000 metric tons.

Mr. Mansoor Shafique Qureshi, Vice President of Operations, BPPL, remarked at a ceremony marking the achievement: “Byco’s SPM is a national asset for Pakistan. Its continuous safe operations are a testament to our promise of keeping safety Byco’s top priority. I want to congratulate the entire Byco team on this singular achievement and on having imported 10 million tons of POL products since the SPM’s inception.”

Byco’s SPM allows Byco to import and export crude oil and refined petroleum products directly, significantly reducing traffic at Pakistan’s ports situated in Karachi and Port Qasim, and saving the associated delays and demurrage charges. It enables Byco to be the only vertically integrated petroleum firm in the nation.

19-Year-Old Mom and Newborn Baby Both Die After She Delayed Her Cancer Treatment to Save Son

A 19-year-old mom died from leukemia just months after losing her newborn son after she delayed her cancer treatments to deliver him.

Brianna Rawlings, of Sydney, Australia, spent just 12 days with her baby boy, Kyden, before he died after being born at just 26 weeks in September, according to a GoFundMe page set up for the family. Rawlings was diagnosed with leukemia and decided to delay intense chemotherapy treatments in an attempt to carry Kyden safely to term.

“Without hesitation, [Rawlings] chose to halve her own chances of survival in order to give her son a fighting chance with as much time as possible – womb side,” friends and family wrote on the page.

“For 12 whole days this beautiful little miracle graced his mum and dad with his presence. [Twelve] short but magical and treasured days, before tragically; growing his angel wings and leaving such devastated and broken parents behind.”

Photos of the deliver showed Rawlings holding the tiny little boy and smiling. She celebrated the birth in a Facebook post, writing, “Nothing makes me happier than watching my son grow bigger and stronger!”

In the months following Kyden’s death, Rawlings underwent “heavy” chemotherapy and radiation therapy as well as a cell transplant. But, ultimately, the treatments failed to keep her alive.

On Dec. 29, Rawlings died “surrounded by many broken hearts.”

“Our Beautiful Brianna reached the end of her journey with us here on earth and was finally reunited with her Baby Bear Kyden,” the family wrote in an update.

“We are absolutely broken but at the same time at peace knowing she is no longer in pain, no longer in pieces and unsure of what news was to come next.”

Rawlings was just 17 weeks pregnant when she was diagnosed with the deadly blood cancer, according to The Epoch Times. She contracted an infection that could have passed to the baby, so she gave birth three months early via C-section. Although her health seemed to be improving at one point, Rawlings died just days after turning 19, the publication reported.

Rawlings’ sister, Kourt Rawlings, shared updates about her sister on Facebook. Just days before she gave birth, Rawlings vowed to keep fighting for her little one.

“I have been fighting NK Leukaemia, whilst growing a little human inside me,” Rawlings said in a statement shared on Kourt’s Facebook page.

“I will continue to fight not only for myself, but for my ever growing baby boy who has given me the strength and energy Ive needed to fight this.”

Sakina Zulfiqar, a resilient 36 year old independent female entrepreneur from Kasur is an established entrepreneur with a dream to keep growing. Sakina was a homemaker initially while her husband supported the family financially. In her quest to be empowered, Sakina was passionate to start a business of her own and add to the income of her family. Overcoming her initial fears and hurdles, Sakina started her school in a small building with only 3 rooms available.

Growth was slow in the initial years due to non-availability of credit for investment, but Sakina’s optimism kept her going. She came to know about micro loans from Khushhali Microfinance Bank Limited (KMBL) offered to small businesses to invest in their assets and working capital. Regulated by State Bank of Pakistan, KMBL is a pioneer microfinance institution which is working with the objective to increase financial inclusion in the country and overcome access to finance challenges for marginalized segments.

Her school is currently offering classes till Inter and has a strength of more than 350 students. Her school is considered as a quality educational institution in the area.

Financial inclusion helped her business to survive when opportunities seemed trifle.
