Manuel Uribe passed away in hospital in Monterrey, Mexico, on Monday, having been admitted a few days earlier with heart problems.
His body had to be taken to the funeral parlour in a reinforced king-size bed on the back of a flatbed lorry.
Once certified by the Guinness Book of Records as the world's heaviest man in 2006 when he weighed 88 stone (560kg), a diet brought Mr Uribe's weight down to 57 stone (394kg), but a crane was still needed to take him to hospital.
In addition to a cardiac condition, Mr Uribe, known as "Meme" to his friends, was also believed to have suffered from liver problems.
