AKDN and World Bank Strengthen Partnership on Climate Action, Clean Energy, and Economic Opportunities
Prince Rahim Aga Khan, the 50th hereditary spiritual leader of the Shia Ismaili Muslims and Chair of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), met with World Bank President Ajay Banga today at the Diwan of the Ismaili Imamat in Lisbon, Portugal. This marked their first official meeting since Prince Rahim assumed his leadership role, and it focused on addressing some of the most pressing global challenges facing vulnerable communities worldwide.

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to advancing inclusive and sustainable development through shared expertise and long-standing collaboration.
The World Bank and AKDN have enjoyed a strong working relationship for years, partnering on impactful initiatives in sectors such as health, education, agriculture, technology, and clean energy. This meeting set the stage for deeper cooperation in the years ahead, with both institutions pledging to enhance their joint efforts in climate resilience, social infrastructure, and community-driven economic development.
