Punjab Leads Nation with First Biogas Production from Animal Waste Under CM Maryam's Green Initiative
Punjab has set a national precedent by becoming the first province in Pakistan to successfully generate biogas from animal offal. This achievement comes under the "Suthra Punjab – Waste to Value" initiative, spearheaded by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
The pilot project, carried out in Lakhodair, demonstrated how biodegradable sacrificial waste can be transformed into energy. Approximately 1,000 metric tons of animal remains were processed to produce 20,000 to 25,000 kilograms of biogas.
This innovation not only promotes sustainable waste management but also carries significant economic potential, with an estimated revenue of Rs. 6–7 million — positioning Punjab as a leader in eco-friendly energy solutions.
