Tragedy Strikes Arshad Waheed Chaudhry's Family Again: Young Son Roshan Passes Away
In a heartbreaking turn of events, Roshan Waheed Chaudhry, the young son of the late journalist Arshad Waheed Chaudhry, has passed away. His funeral prayers will be held today (Friday, August 1st, 2025) after Maghrib prayers at Dispensary Ground near Jamia Masjid Media Town.
This devastating news echoes the sorrowful day when Arshad Waheed Chaudhry himself departed during the harrowing days of the COVID-19 pandemic. The grief of Roshan's grandfather is particularly unbearable. He recounted that Roshan had returned from the gym one night and remarked to his mother, "Other people have fathers who take them to Naran Kaghan on holidays; I have no one." Roshan was due to receive his A-level results in just a few days.
There's a growing concern about the emotional burdens carried by Gen Z, or perhaps an unknown impact of COVID-19 vaccines, as similar sudden deaths of young individuals have been reported. Recently, a young man visiting from England for holidays in the writer's sister's village similarly went to sleep one night and never woke up.
While it's not guaranteed that every night will be followed by a morning, the sudden departure of young children casts a darkness deeper than night, a void that remains throughout life. The poignant Urdu couplet reflects this profound sorrow:
تیرے فراق میں مجھ پر جو سانحے گزرے
وہ اگر دن پر گزرتے تو رات ہو جاتا
(The tragedies that befell me in your absence,
Had they befallen the day, it would have turned into night.)
