Agha Siraj Durrani, Close Aide to Benazir Bhutto, Dies After Prolonged Illness

Veteran PPP Leader and Former Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani Passes Away


KARACHI: Senior Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader and former Speaker of the Sindh Assembly, Agha Siraj Durrani, has passed away after a prolonged illness. He was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Karachi, where he had been battling a heart ailment.




Agha Siraj Durrani had a distinguished political career, serving not only as the Speaker of the Sindh Assembly but also as the Minister for Education in Sindh. He was widely regarded as one of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto's closest and most trusted aides.


His demise has drawn condolences from across the political spectrum. President Asif Ali Zardari expressed his profound grief, stating in a condolence message that Agha Siraj Durrani played a prominent role in promoting democratic values. PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah also expressed their sorrow at his passing. 


Agha Siraj Durrani's political journey with the PPP spanned four decades, during which he served as a provincial minister three times and held the Speaker's office for two terms, leaving a significant legacy in Sindh's political landscape.
