Bangladesh is taking a historic step in strengthening its defense industry as the Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) prepares to establish the nation’s first unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) manufacturing plant. The facility, developed through a technology transfer agreement with China, is expected to be completed by December, marking a major stride toward self-reliance in advanced defense technology.
The announcement came during a coordination meeting organized by the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), which also emphasized plans to attract local, private, and foreign investments in the production of military and paramilitary equipment within the country.
In addition, China has proposed setting up an aircraft overhauling facility in Bangladesh. This initiative would allow the repair and maintenance of aircraft engines by leveraging the Air Force’s existing technical expertise and manpower.
The Aeronautical Research and Development Centre (ARDC) of the BAF has already showcased its domestic capabilities by designing and successfully flying four aircraft prototypes. Officials believe that stronger collaboration between defense institutions and universities will help cultivate skilled manpower, opening the door to greater investment and innovation in the aviation sector.
