63 Dead in Kampala-Gulu Road Accident as Buses Collide Head-On
Western Uganda was struck by tragedy when a horrific multi-vehicle accident claimed the lives of at least 63 people. The fatal crash occurred just after midnight on the Kampala-Gulu highway, where two buses collided head-on during a risky overtaking maneuver. According to police, one driver attempted to swerve and avoid impact, but instead triggered a devastating chain reaction involving at least four other vehicles.
The force of the collision caused multiple vehicles to lose control and overturn repeatedly, resulting in widespread casualties. All 63 victims were occupants of the involved vehicles, and several others sustained injuries. Emergency responders rushed the wounded to Kiryandongo Hospital and nearby medical facilities, though authorities have yet to release details on the number of injured or the severity of their conditions.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident and emphasized the need for stricter enforcement of highway safety regulations. The accident has sparked national mourning and renewed calls for improved road safety measures across Uganda’s major transport routes.
