The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Highways Council (KPHC) has approved construction of three new highways at an estimated cost of Rs 1360 million, repair and maintenance of 410 kilometres long different roads at Rs 1565 million and bringing two more highways under the control of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Highway Authority (KPHA) besides construction of two bypass roads.
The KPHC gave this approval in a meeting held at CM Secretariat here on Monday presided over by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak. The Chief Minister also sought a deadline for completion of ongoing clean-up operation against encroachments throughout the province and asked the C&W and Local Government departments that the operation must not take more than six months.
The Advisor to the Chief Minister for Communication and Works, Akbar Ayub Khan, the Provincial Information Minister Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani, Advisor to the CM on Environment, Ishtiaq Urmer, MPA Fazl Elahi, Additional Chief Secretary Dr Hamad Awais Agha, Secretaries of Finance and C&W Departments, Managing Director of KPHA, and other officers concerned attended the meeting.
The meeting reviewed in detail the progress on implementation of the decisions taken by previous meeting of the Council and also took important decisions regarding construction of three new highways in the province, maintenance plan for the current financial year for repairing and rehabilitating different roads, provincialization of two roads, capacity enhancement of KPHA, revenue generation, anti-encroachment drive and certain other affairs.
Directing the KPHA to workout feasibility for construction of 12-kilometre Swabi bypass road and conduct a complete survey and prepare PCI for the proposed Rajar-Takhat Bai Road, the Chief Minister asked KPHA to include the maintenance cost of the provincial highways into the annual budget for future. Seeking final date for removal of encroachments from all over the province he ordered the authorities concerned to complete this task within six months at any cost. He also directed to ensure completion of the proposed Swat Motorway Project within one year after finalising its tendering process by March next.
Discussing progress on repair and rehabilitation of the flood affected communication infrastructure and other facilities in district Chitral, the chief minister directed the C&W department to handover the flood- affected schemes as well as newly approved uplift projects for district Chitral under Annual Development Programme of the current year and PSDP schemes to the frontier works organisation in order to ensure their early and up to the mark execution.
