Sudden Dismissal of Contract Teachers Disrupts Education in Jamrud

In Jamrud tehsil of Khyber district, the education system in government schools has been severely affected after the Education Department terminated the services of over 567 Parent-Teacher Council (PTC) teachers. The sudden decision has created an acute shortage of teaching staff in several schools, raising concerns about disruptions in students’ education and academic activities.

The dismissed teachers said they had been filling long-standing gaps in schools for several months, and their removal is expected to significantly lower the quality of education. However, district education officials clarified that the appointments were temporary, made under the PTC system for four months at a monthly stipend of Rs25,000, and have now ended as per official directives from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Education Department.

Authorities further stated that the situation will be reassessed after the summer holidays, when schools reopen, and decisions will be made regarding either extending the contracts or hiring new teachers. Meanwhile, parents and students have urged the government to take urgent steps to ensure continuity in education and address the shortage promptly.
